Abstract
Rotary motors incorporating flexible printed circuit boards are described. A motor may include a stator assembly and a rotor assembly co-radially arranged with the stator assembly and configured to rotate relative to the stator assembly. At least one of the stator assembly and the rotor assembly may include a flexible printed circuit board having a base layer and a plurality of conductive elements formed on the base layer.
Claims18
A motor comprising:
- a stator;
- and
- a rotor co-radially arranged with the stator and configured to rotate relative to the stator assembly,
- wherein the stator comprises:
- a laminated structure comprising a plurality of slots defined by a plurality of teeth extending from a surface of the laminated structure;
- and
- a flexible printed circuit board comprising:
- a base layer, wherein a plurality of gaps are formed entirely through the base layer and each of the plurality of teeth extends through a respective one of the plurality of gaps;
- and
- a plurality of conductive windings formed on the base layer, wherein each of the plurality of conductive windings comprises a respective portion that is positioned in a respective one of the plurality of slots.

A motor comprising:
- a stator;
- and;
- a rotor co-radially arranged with the stator and configured to rotate relative to the stator along an axis of rotation, wherein both the stator and the rotor are present within a plane that is perpendicular to the axis of rotation, wherein the stator comprises a laminated structure comprising a plurality of slots defined by a plurality of teeth extending from a surface of the laminated structure;
- and
- a flexible printed circuit board comprising:
- a base layer, wherein a plurality of gaps are formed entirely through the base layer and each of the plurality of teeth extends through a respective one of the plurality of gaps;
- and
- a plurality of conductive windings formed on the base layer, wherein each of the plurality of conductive windings comprises a respective portion that is positioned in a respective one of the plurality of slots such that the portion is parallel to the respective slot.
