Abstract
A battery, having polyvalent aluminum metal as the electrochemically active anode material and also including a solid ionically conducting polymer material.
Claims52
A battery comprising:
- a negative electrode comprising a dispersed aluminum powder and a solid ionically conducting polymer, wherein the dispersed aluminum powder is dispersed within the solid ionically conducting polymer;
- a positive electrode comprising a depolarizer that is capable of electrochemically reacting to produce a hydroxide ion upon reduction;
- and
- an electrolyte interposed between the negative electrode and positive electrode to ionically conduct hydroxide ions between the electrodes;
- wherein the electrolyte further comprises the solid ionically conducting polymer;
- wherein an ionic conductivity of the solid ionically conducting polymer is greater than 1.0×10−5 S/cm at room temperature of 21° C.;
- and
- wherein the solid ionically conducting polymer is ionically conductive through the solid and not through any solvent, gel or liquid phase.
