Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for latency-oriented router. An incoming packet is received on a first interface. The type of the incoming packet is determined. Upon the detection that the incoming packet belongs to latency-critical traffic, the incoming packet is duplicated into one or more copies. Subsequently, the duplicated copies are sent to a second interface in a delayed fashion where the duplicated copies are spread over a time period. The duplicated copies are received and processed at the second interface.
Claims20
A method of managing data packets, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a routing device, a plurality of packets from a computing device, the plurality of packets comprising at least a first packet, a second packet, and a third packet;
- transmitting, by the routing device, at least a copy of the first packet to a target device;
- transmitting, by the routing device, a copy of the second packet and a first split-copy comprising an XOR of the first packet and the second packet to the target device;
- and
- transmitting, by the routing device, a copy of the third packet and a second split-copy comprising an XOR of the second packet and the third packet to the target device.
A routing device comprising:
- a memory configured to store a queue of a plurality of packets received from a computing device, the plurality of packets comprising at least a first packet, a second packet, and a third packet;
- and
- a processor configured to:
- transmit at least a copy of the first packet to a target device;
- transmit a copy of the second packet and a first split-copy comprising an XOR of the first packet and the second packet to the target device;
- and
- transmit a copy of the third packet and a second split-copy comprising an XOR of the second packet and the third packet to the target device.
A method of reconstructing a packet in a sequence of packets when less than all of the packets in the sequence of packets are received, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a routing device, copies of all but one packet of two or more packets from a sequence of packets, wherein a copy of at least one of the two or more packets is received via a first interface;
- receiving, by the routing device, a split-copy comprising an XOR of a packet received from the sequence of packets and the one packet of the two or more packets for which a copy was not received, wherein the split-copy is received via a second interface;
- and
- reconstructing, by the routing device, the one packet of the two or more packets for which a copy was not received from the received copies of all but one packet of the two or more packets and the received split-copy.
A routing device for reconstructing a packet in a sequence of packets when less than all of the packets in the sequence of packets are received by the routing device, the routing device comprising:
- a memory configured to store a queue of a plurality of packets received from a computing device;
- and
- a processor configured to:
- receive copies of all but one packet of two or more packets from a sequence of packets, wherein a copy of at least one of the two or more packets is received via a first interface;
- receive a split-copy comprising an XOR of a packet received from the sequence of packets and the one packet of the two or more packets for which a copy was not received, wherein the split-copy is received via a second interface;
- and
- reconstruct the one packet of the two or more packets for which a copy was not received from the received copies of all but one packet of the two or more packets and the received split-copy.
