Abstract
Some embodiments provide a method for configuring a logical router that interfaces with an external network. The method receives a configuration for a logical network that includes a logical router with several interfaces that connect to at least one physical router external to the logical network. The method selects a separate host machine to host a centralized routing component for each of the interfaces. The method selects a particular one of the host machines for operating a dynamic routing protocol control plane that receives routing protocol data from each of the centralized routing components and updates routing tables of each of the centralized routing components.

For a dynamic routing protocol control plane executing on a first host computer that also executes a first centralized routing component of a plurality of centralized routing components of a logical router that process data traffic between a logical network to which the logical router belongs and a network external to the logical network, a method comprising:
- receiving (i) a first routing protocol message sent from a physical router of the external network to the first centralized routing component executing on the host computer and (ii) a second routing protocol message sent from the physical router to a second centralized routing component executing on a second host computer and forwarded to the first centralized routing component by the second centralized routing component;
- using the received routing protocol messages to update routing tables for at least the first and second centralized routing components of the logical router;
- and
- distributing the respective updated routing tables for the first and second centralized routing components to the first and second centralized routing components.
A non-transitory machine readable medium storing a dynamic routing protocol control plane program for execution by a set of processing units of a first host computer that also executes a first centralized routing component of a plurality of centralized routing components of a logical router that process data traffic between a logical network to which the logical router belongs and a network external to the logical network, the program comprising sets of instructions for:
- receiving (i) a first routing protocol message sent from a physical router of the external network to the first centralized routing component executing on the host computer and (ii) a second routing protocol message sent from the physical router to a second centralized routing component executing on a second host computer and forwarded to the first centralized routing component by the second centralized routing component;
- using the received routing protocol messages to update routing tables for at least the first and second centralized routing components of the logical router;
- and
- distributing the respective updated routing tables for the first and second centralized routing components to the first and second centralized routing components.
