Abstract
The various embodiments described herein include methods, devices, and systems for operating superconducting circuitry. In one aspect, a programmable circuit includes: (1) a superconducting component arranged in a multi-dimensional array of alternating narrow and wide portions, the superconducting component having an input terminal at a first end and an output terminal at a second end opposite of the first end; and (2) control circuitry coupled to the narrow portions of the superconducting component, the control circuitry configured to transition the narrow portions between superconducting and non-superconducting states. In some implementations, the superconducting component and the control circuitry are formed on different layers of the programmable circuit.

- a superconducting component arranged in a multi-dimensional array of alternating narrow and wide portions, the superconducting component having an input terminal at a first end and an output terminal at a second end opposite of the first end;
- and
- control circuitry coupled to the narrow portions of the superconducting component, the control circuitry configured to selectively transition the narrow portions between superconducting and non-superconducting states, wherein:
- the superconducting component including the multi-dimensional array comprises, and is formed on, a continuous portion of a first layer of superconducting material;
- respective narrow portions of the superconducting component are interconnected by wide portions of the superconducting component in the continuous portion of the first layer of superconducting material;
- the control circuitry comprises heat sources coupled to respective narrow portions of the superconducting component;
- the control circuitry selectively transitions the narrow portions from the superconducting state to the non-superconducting state by selectively providing heat via the heat sources;
- and
- the control circuitry is formed on a second layer distinct from the first layer.
A programmable circuit, comprising:
- a configurable superconducting component comprising a multi-dimensional array of alternating narrow and wide portions having an input terminal, an output terminal, and a plurality of gate terminals, wherein the gate terminals correspond to respective narrow portions of the multi-dimensional array;
- and
- control circuitry coupled to the configurable superconducting component via the plurality of gate terminals, the control circuitry adapted to selectively adjust capacitance, inductance, or resistance of the superconducting component, wherein:
- the superconducting component comprises, and is formed on, a continuous portion of a first layer of superconducting material;
- the control circuitry comprises heat sources coupled to respective narrow portions of the superconducting component;
- the control circuitry selectively transitions the narrow portions from a superconducting state to a non-superconducting state by selectively providing heat via the heat sources;
- and
- the control circuitry is formed on a second layer distinct from the first layer.
A programmable circuit, comprising:
- a superconducting component arranged in a multi-dimensional array of alternating narrow and wide portions, the superconducting component having an input terminal and an output terminal;
- and
- control circuitry coupled to a plurality of the narrow portions of the superconducting component, the control circuitry configured to selectively transition the narrow portions between superconducting and non-superconducting states, wherein:
- the superconducting component including the multi-dimensional array comprises, and is formed on, a continuous portion of a first layer of superconducting material;
- respective narrow portions of the superconducting component are interconnected by wide portions of the superconducting component in the continuous portion of the first layer of superconducting material;
- two or more of the plurality of narrow portions are connected in series between the input terminal and output terminal of the superconducting component;
- and
- the control circuitry is configured to concurrently control states of the plurality of narrow portions of the superconducting component so as to configure the programmable circuit in any of a plurality of distinct configurations, including a first configuration in which the programmable circuit is configured to perform a first function, and a second configuration in which the programmable circuit is configured to perform a second function distinct from the first function.
