Collaborative light show authoring for tessellated geometries

An optical display apparatus comprising:

• a control engine configured to receive a control signal to display a first light show;
• and,
• an optical display structure comprising a plurality of light sets configured to display the first light show, wherein the first light show defines a first set of apparent light size of the plurality of light sets, and wherein each light set further comprising:
• (a) a light source configured to emit a light in response to a signal from the control engine;
• (b) a first diffusion medium having a first proximal surface and a first distal surface and arranged to receive, on the first proximal surface, the light output by the light source, the received light being distributed over a first angle with respect to an optical axis that originates at the light source and is substantially orthogonal to the first proximal surface, and the first diffusion medium comprises at least a first intermediate region and a second intermediate region;
• and,
• (c) a second diffusion medium comprises a first display region and a second display region, wherein a first diffusion coefficient of the first intermediate region is less than a second diffusion coefficient of the second intermediate region such that a first intensity of the first beam of light is stronger than a second intensity of the second beam of light;
• and,
• wherein, in response to receiving an updated control signal to display a second light show, the second light show corresponding to a second set of apparent light size of the plurality of light sets, such that the light source, the first diffusion medium, and the second confusion medium cause the first light show to transition to a second light show displayed,
• wherein, the second light show is generated by transformation operations comprising at least one of adjusting an orientation, a relative position, and a display size of the first light show.

A method to implement an optical display apparatus, the method comprising:

• (a) providing a control engine configured to receive a control signal to display a first light show;
• (b) providing a light source configured to emit a light in response to a signal from the control engine;
• wherein the signal represents a first set of apparent light size of the light source;
• (c) providing a first diffusion medium having a first proximal surface and a first distal surface, the first diffusion medium comprises a first intermediate region and a second intermediate region;
• (d) arranging the first diffusion medium to receive, on the first proximal surface, light output by the light source, the received light being distributed over a first angle with respect to an optical axis that originates at the light source and is substantially orthogonal to the first proximal surface;
• and,
• (e) providing a second diffusion medium having a second proximal surface and a second distal surface, the second diffusion medium comprises at least a first display region and a second display region, wherein the first display region lies within the second display region such that the second display region extends outside of the first display region,
• wherein a first diffusion coefficient of the first intermediate region is less than a second diffusion coefficient of the second intermediate region such that a first intensity of the first beam of light is stronger than a second intensity of the second beam of light, and,
• in response to receiving an updated control signal to display a second light show, the second light show corresponding to a second set of apparent light size, such that the light source, the first diffusion medium, and the second confusion medium cause the first light show to transition to a second light show displayed,
• wherein, the second light show is generated by transformation operations comprising at least one of adjusting an orientation, a relative position, and a display size of the first light show.
