Abstract
Techniques are shown for enabling a network system to index data stored on a third-party server to allow the data stored on the third-party server to be searchable by searching functionality of the network system.
Claims20
A network system comprising:
- a data storage device;
- and
- a processor, coupled to the data storage device, to:
- maintain data searchable by a search component of the network system, the searchable data comprising data pertaining to a first plurality of files provided to the network system by a plurality of users over a network and having one or more formats, wherein the data pertaining to the first plurality of files is indexed and the searchable data allows the first plurality of files to be accessible by the plurality of users over the network;
- receive an indication of a user-accessible resource associated with a third-party system, the third-party system being separate from the network system, the user-accessible resource corresponding to a second plurality of files, which differ from the first plurality of files and have one or more formats that are different from the one or more formats of the first plurality of files;
- receive, from the third-party system via an application programming interface (API), indexable metadata associated with at least a portion of content of the user-accessible resource;
- and
- arrange the indexable metadata on the data storage device to cause data pertaining to the user-accessible resource to be included in the searchable data searchable by the search component of the network system.

A method comprising:
- maintaining, by a network system, data searchable by a search component of the network system, the searchable data comprising data pertaining to a first plurality of files provided to the network system by a plurality of users over a network and having one or more formats, wherein the data pertaining to the first plurality of files is indexed and the searchable data allows the first plurality of files to be accessible by the plurality of users over the network;
- receiving, by the network system, an indication of a user-accessible resource associated with a third-party system, the third-party system being separate from the network system, the user-accessible resource corresponding to a second plurality of files, which differ from the first plurality of files and have one or more formats that are different from the one or more formats of the first plurality of files;
- receiving, from the third-party system via an application programming interface (API), indexable metadata associated with at least a portion of content of the user-accessible resource;
- and
- arranging the indexable metadata on the data storage device to cause data pertaining to the user-accessible resource to be included in the searchable data searchable by the search component of the network system.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
- maintaining, by a network system, data searchable by a search component of the network system, the searchable data comprising data pertaining to a first plurality of files provided to the network system by a plurality of users over a network and having one or more formats, wherein the data pertaining to the first plurality of files is indexed and the searchable data allows the first plurality of files to be accessible by the plurality of users over the network;
- receiving, by the network system, an indication of a user-accessible resource associated with a third-party system, the third-party system being separate from the network system, the user-accessible resource corresponding to a second plurality of files, which differ from the first plurality of files and have one or more formats that are different from the one or more formats of the first plurality of files;
- receiving, from the third-party system via an application programming interface (API), indexable metadata associated with at least a portion of content of the user-accessible resource;
- and
- arranging the indexable metadata on the data storage device to cause data pertaining to the user-accessible resource to be included in the searchable data searchable by the search component of the network system.
