Abstract
A portable eyewear electronic device that includes a speaker module and methods of assembly of the device are presented. The electronic eyewear device includes a speaker module that emits acoustic radiation that is channeled through a carrier contained within a temple to one or more acoustic ports near a user's ear.
Claims19
An electronic eyewear device, comprising
- a frame configured to be worn on the head of a user, the frame comprising an eyeglass section and spaced-apart first and second temples, each temple extending rearwardly from the eyeglass section and each comprising an internal space and having an inner wall and at least one acoustic port having an audio port axis;
- a carrier sized to be received within the internal space of at least one of the first and second temples and comprising a module-receiving zone and configured to form a channel within the internal space of the temple, wherein the carrier engages the inner wall of the at least one of the first and second temples to form the channel;
- a speaker module sized to be received by the carrier module-receiving zone, wherein the module-receiving zone comprises an opening and the speaker module emits acoustic radiation through the opening into the channel along a radiation axis, wherein the channel acoustically couples the speaker module to the at least one acoustic port;
- wherein acoustic radiation is emitted from the temple through the audio port axis that is not in coaxial alignment with said radiation axis.
1 more element
A method of assembling an electronic eyewear device having improved acoustic volume, comprising
- providing an electronic eyewear device including a temple comprising a housing having an internal space and at least one audio port;
- providing a speaker module comprising an audio transducer configured to receive electrical input;
- attaching the speaker module to a carrier;
- and
- attaching the carrier to an interior surface within the temple housing, wherein the carrier is configured to engage the interior surface to form a channel that acoustically couples the speaker module to the at least one acoustic port,
- wherein the audio port is not directly across from an output of the speaker module.
