A method for producing biomass comprising culturing a Haematococcus sp. that is Haematococcus sp. KAU-01 deposited under patent depository number P0088700 in culture medium in the presence of light, wherein the light may be present intermittently, periodically or continuously;

• wherein the culture medium comprises AAHKAU culture medium that contains about:
• 375.00 mg/L NaNO3,
• 75.00 mg/L KNO3,
• 25.00 mg/L Ca(NO3)2,
• 55.00 mg/L Mg(NO3)2·6H2O,
• 10.00 mg/L K2SO4,
• 45.00 mg/L K2HPO4,
• 40.00 mg/L KH2PO4,
• 23.75 mg/L MgSO4·7H2O
• 1.755 mg/L urea,
• 65 μl/L HNO3,
• 15 μl/L H3PO4;
• 3.50 mg/L FeCl3·6H2O,
• 1.00 mg/L H3BO3,
• 0.25 mg/L Co(NO3)2·6H2O,
• 0.10 mg/L K2Cr2O7,
• 0.10 mg/L CuSO4·5H2O,
• 0.25 mg/L MnSO4·H2O,
• 0.75 mg/L ZnSO4·6H2O,
• 0.25 mg/L (NH4)6Mo7O24·4H2O,
• 1.00 mg/L Nae-EDTA,
• 1.00 μl/L HCl;
• and
• water;
• wherein one or more of said concentrations may vary by up to ±10%;
• and
• wherein the culture medium further comprises at least one material comprising carbon dioxide obtained by combustion of a fuel.
