A method for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and the associated disorders selected from the group consisting of cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, and lipodystrophy, in a subject comprising administering a bacterial probiotic that produces an aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) agonist to a subject.
