Abstract
The invention relates to a sealing device for repair of cardiac and vascular defects or tissue opening such as a patent foramen ovale (PFO) or shunt in the heart, the vascular system, etc. and particularly provides an occluder device and trans-catheter occluder delivery system. The sealing device would have improved conformity to heart anatomy and be easily deployed, repositioned, and retrieved at the opening site.
Claims17
A medical device for sealing a tissue opening having an elongated configuration and a deployed configuration and including a longitudinal axis, the medical device comprising:
- a non-woven wire frame that includes a plurality of wires each having a reniform shape when the device is in the deployed configuration;
- each of the plurality of wires having a free proximal end and a free distal end, wherein the plurality of wires extends from a proximal end of the wire frame a distal end of the wire frame forming a proximal eyelet at the proximal end of the wire frame formed by proximal end portions of the plurality of wires wound about a circumference of the proximal eyelet, a distal eyelet at the distal end of the wire frame formed by distal end portions of the plurality of wires wound about a circumference of the distal eyelet;
- and
- a sealing member attached to the wire frame, the wire frame and the sealing member forming:
- a proximal disk occluding member adjacent the proximal eyelet, the proximal disk occluding member comprising a plurality of petals in the deployed configuration, each of the petals comprising a first portion of one wire of the plurality of wires and a first portion of the sealing member, wherein adjacent petals of the proximal disk overlap one another to create overlapping zones of the sealing member when viewed in a direction along the longitudinal axis in the deployed configuration;
- a distal disk occluding member adjacent the distal eyelet, the distal disk occluding member comprising a plurality of petals in the deployed configuration, each of the petals comprising a second portion of one wire of the plurality of wires and a second portion of the sealing member, wherein adjacent petals of the distal disk overlap one another with one another to create overlapping zones of the sealing member when viewed in a direction along the longitudinal axis in the deployed configuration;
- and
- a waist portion disposed between the proximal disk occluding member and the distal disk occluding member, the waist portion formed by the reniform shape of each of the plurality of wires in the deployed configuration and having a diameter greater than a diameter of at least one of the proximal eyelet and the distal eyelet in the elongated configuration.
A medical device for sealing a tissue opening, the medical device comprising:
- a non-woven wire frame that includes a plurality of wires each having a free proximal end and a free distal end, wherein the plurality of wires extend from a proximal end of the wire frame to a distal end of the wire frame, the plurality of wires forming:
- a proximal eyelet at the proximal end of the wire frame, the proximal eyelet defined by proximal end portions of each of the plurality of wires that are wrapped around a longitudinal axis of the device extending from different locations of a circumference of the proximal eyelet to form a wound eyelet,
- a distal eyelet at the distal end of the wire frame, the distal eyelet defined by distal end portions of each of the plurality of wires that are wrapped around the longitudinal axis of the device extending from different locations of about a circumference of the distal eyelet to form a wound eyelet;
- and
- a sealing member attached to the wire frame, the wire frame and the sealing member forming:
- a proximal disk occluding member adjacent the proximal eyelet, the proximal disk occluding member comprising a plurality of proximal petals in the deployed configuration, wherein adjacent proximal petals of the proximal disk overlap one another to create overlapping zones of the sealing member when viewed in a direction along the longitudinal axis in the deployed configuration;
- a distal disk occluding member adjacent the distal eyelet, the distal disk occluding member comprising a plurality of distal petals in the deployed configuration, wherein adjacent distal petals of the distal disk overlap one another to create overlapping zones of the sealing member when viewed in a direction along the longitudinal axis in the deployed configuration;
- and
- a waist portion disposed between the proximal disk occluding member and the distal disk occluding member, the waist portion adapted to substantially fully occupy the tissue opening without appreciably enlarging the tissue opening and having a diameter greater than a diameter of at least one of the proximal eyelet and the distal eyelet in the elongated configuration.
