Peer-level control of industrial automation system components

A system, comprising:

• a plurality of network devices communicatively coupled via a network, wherein each of the plurality of network devices comprises a respective plurality of pins configured to interface with one or more network devices of the plurality of network devices;
• and
• a wire infrastructure associated with the network, wherein the wire infrastructure is configured to communicatively couple a first network device of the plurality of network devices to a second network device of the plurality of network devices, wherein the wire infrastructure comprises:
• a first coupling configured to provide a control power signal to the first network device via a first pin of a first plurality of pins associated with the first network device and the second network device via a first pin of a second plurality of pins associated with the second network device;
• a second coupling configured to receive the control power signal from the first network device via a second pin of the first plurality of pins and the second network device via a second pin of the second plurality of pins;
• a third coupling configured to provide a network power signal to the first network device via a third pin of the first plurality of pins and the second network device via a third pin of the second plurality of pins;
• a fourth coupling configured to receive the network power signal from the first network device via a fourth pin of the first plurality of pins and the second network device via a fourth pin of the second plurality of pins;
• a fifth coupling configured to provide an Ethernet signal to the first network device via a fifth pin of the first plurality of pins;
• and
• a sixth coupling configured to receive the Ethernet signal from the first network device via a sixth pin of the first plurality of pins.

A wire infrastructure, comprising:

• a first coupling configured to provide a control power signal to a first network device via a first pin of a first plurality of pins associated with the first network device and a second network device via a first pin of a second plurality of pins associated with the second network device;
• a second coupling configured to receive the control power signal from the first network device via a second pin of the first plurality of pins and the second network device via a second pin of the second plurality of pins;
• a third coupling configured to provide a network power signal and an Ethernet signal to the first network device via a third pin of the first plurality of pins and the second network device via a third pin of the second plurality of pins;
• and
• a fourth coupling configured to receive the network power signal and the Ethernet signal from the first network device via a fourth pin of the first plurality of pins and the second network device via a fourth pin of the second plurality of pins.
