Abstract
The present invention relates to a steam sample concentrator and conditioning (SSCC) system. The SSCC finds use in concentrating impurities carried in steam (e.g., used in power generation and other industrial processes) and facilitating steam analysis. A device for determining steam purity includes an isokinetic flow control device that maintain isokinetic flow of a steam sample stream through a nozzle, and a pump that prevents the steam sample stream from becoming superheated after the isokinetic flow control device. A contactor condenses the steam sample stream, and a separator that separates a condensate sample stream from a residual steam stream sample. A flowmeter measures a flowrate of the condensate sample stream and an analyzer is configured to measure impurities.
Claims27
A method for determining steam purity in a raw steam stream comprising
- using a device including:
- a. an isokinetic flow control device that maintain isokinetic flow of a steam sample stream through a nozzle;
- b. a pump that prevents the steam sample stream from becoming superheated after the isokinetic flow control device;
- c. a contactor that condenses the steam sample stream;
- d. a separator that separates a condensate sample stream from a residual steam stream sample;
- e. a flowmeter that measures a flowrate of the condensate sample stream;
- and
- f. an analyzer configured to measure impurities.
A method for determining steam purity in a raw steam stream comprising:
- obtaining a steam stream sample from the raw steam stream;
- partially condensing the steam stream sample to generate a condensate sample stream and a residual steam stream sample from the steam stream sample;
- separating the condensate sample stream from the residual steam stream sample;
- detecting and/or measuring one or more impurities in the condensate sample stream;
- measuring a steam stream sample flow rate and a condensate sample stream flow rate;
- calculating a concentration factor utilizing the steam stream sample flow rate and the condensate sample stream flow rate;
- and
- determining the level of the one or more impurities in the raw steam stream based on the concentration factor.
