Abstract
A modular and decentralized architecture for building illuminated means of egress from a device level to a building system level wherein a plurality of communicatively networked building egress devices with processing capability coupled to sensing and output devices and governed by an artificial intelligence (AI) engine establish local device self-awareness that enhances building life safety performance while providing utility to other building disciplines.
Claims23
A modular egress luminaire comprising:
- a housing configured to stand alone or couple to at least one of an exit sign luminaire, an adaptor, and/or an extender, and couple to a retaining surface;
- a plurality of universal receptacles hosted by the housing and each configured to provide at least one of power and/or data to a corresponding light module detachably attached thereto via an electromechanical coupling, the light module being interchangeable among at least two of the plurality of universal receptacles;
- and
- at least one driver that provides power to at least one electromechanically coupled light module coupled to at least one of the plurality of universal receptacles, the driver has a capacity to power up to four light modules that illuminate an egress pathways below the housing, at least one coupled light module having a light beam orientation that is different than for another coupled light module;
- wherein
- under a first condition at least one light module that includes an optical lens disposed over a lamp and is horizontally disposed in the at least one of the universal receptacles and is configured to rotate about a central vertical axis of the at least one light module, the optical lens being a linear pattern optical lens such that linear light emitted from the at least one light module is aligned with a longitudinal axis of at least one egress pathway below the housing,
- under a second condition in which the egress housing is mounted at a second and different predetermined height, above the egress pathway, a second and different light module is electromechanically coupled to at least one of the universal receptacles wherein the second light module differs from the at least one light module by at least one of lamp input power, number of lamps with corresponding dedicated lensed optics, and light beam pattern, and
- a power source disposed in at least one of the housing, adaptor, extender, or a remote location provides backup power to the driver under a condition that house power is unavailable.
An egress luminaire comprising:
- a housing;
- a first light module that includes a lamp, an optical lens that directs light from the optical lens in a predetermined direction, the lamp of the first light module comprises a linear pattern optical lens disposed on a top of the lamp;
- a first receptacle that at least provides at least one of power and/or data to the first light module, and electromechanically couples the first light module thereto so that the first light module is horizontally disposed and rotatable about a vertical axis thereof;
- a second receptacle that has a same form, fit and function as the first receptacle is configured to electromechanically couple to at least one of a non-lit power consuming module or a different coupled light module with different light beam orientation;
- and
- a controller that controls operations of any module electromechanically coupled to the first receptacle or the second receptacle, wherein
- at least one of a transverse beam angle width, a number of lamps, and/or an input power of the first light module and the different coupled light module varies by a mounting height of at least a luminaire housing wherein a higher mounted luminaire housing is coupled to a narrower transverse beam angle, and
- at least the first light module is configured to maintain a predetermined minimum light level of an elongated light beam for a predetermined time duration on a floor along an egress pathway below the housing regardless of the mounting height.
An egress luminaire that is configured to illuminate up to four paths of egress, comprising:
- a first light module that includes a lamp, and an optical lens that directs light from the optical lens in a predetermined direction, the lamp of the first light module comprises a linear pattern optical lens disposed on a top of the lamp and is configured to align a linear and elongated beam pattern emitted therefrom with an egress path below the first light module;
- a first receptacle that at least provides at least one of power and/or data to the first light module and electromechanically couples the first light module thereto so that the first light module is horizontally disposed and rotatable about a vertical axis thereof;
- a second receptacle that has a same form, fit and function as the first receptacle is configured to electromechanically couple to at least one of a non-lit power consuming device or coupled to a different light module with a different light beam orientation;
- a computer processor;
- a sensor;
- and
- a transceiver;
- wherein
- the computer processor is configured to perform a control process by employing a trained AI engine and is communicatively coupled to at least one of a local addressable light module and/or a remote addressable light module, another sensor, and/or an output device, based on input data from at least the sensor, an imaging device, and/or communication device, and
- the AI engine is configured to control an operation of at least the first light module, the non-lit power consuming device and the different light module to change an illuminated egress path from a predetermined path to a different egress path in response to an output provided by the AI engine.
