Large scale radio frequency signal information processing and analysis system using bin-wise processing

A system for estimating telecommunication bandwidth utilization, comprising:

• a computing device comprising a memory and a processor;
• and
• a telecommunication utilization estimator, comprising a plurality of programming instructions stored in the memory of, and operating on the processor of, the computing device, wherein the plurality of programming instructions, when operating on the processor, causes the computing device to:
• receive signal information for a plurality of telecommunication signals in an overall frequency band;
• for each signal of the plurality of telecommunication signals, detect the frequency edges of the signal by:
• estimating a mean value along the time domain of the signal;
• using the estimated mean value along the time domain to obtain a set of data in the frequency domain;
• calculating a gradient on the set of data in the frequency domain;
• detecting the frequency edges of the signal by applying a threshold value to the gradient wherein a gradient in excess of the threshold value indicates a frequency edge;
• and
• determining a bandwidth of the signal based on the frequency edges;
• for each signal, estimate the bandwidth of that signal compared to the overall frequency band;
• and
• compile the estimated bandwidths of all of the plurality of telecommunication signals within the overall frequency band to determine a total band utilization of the plurality of telecommunication signals within the overall frequency band.
