Abstract
A method of managing medical data, the method including defining at least one participating object and defining an operational relationship between the at least one participating object and a second participating object. The method also includes defining an event capability for the participating object, defining an event role for the at least one participating object, and defining a financial profile for the at least one participating object. The method may further include selecting at least one participating object, generating an event for the at least one selected participating object, and delivering data representative of the generated event to a user.

A computer implemented method of managing and sharing, via a computer network, medical data, the method comprising:
- defining an event representative of a medical procedure as a top tier object within a data structure stored in memory accessible to one or more processors communicatively coupled to the computer network;
- defining at least one participating object, representative of a resource to be utilized during the medical procedure, in the data structure and associated to the event as a second tier object, the second tier object related, using a hierarchy within the data structure, to the top tier object;
- defining and maintaining, within the data structure, an operational relationship between the at least one participating object and a second participating object, the defining and maintaining performed by the one or more processors;
- defining an event capability for the at least one participating object, the event capability representative of an action to be performed by the at least one participating object for the medical procedure;
- defining an event role for the at least one participating object, the event role representative of a function to be provided by the at least one participating object for the medical procedure;
- defining a financial profile for the at least one participating object, the financial profile associated with the at least one participating object for the medical procedure;
- receiving, from a user interface device associated with a computer on the computer network, an indication of selection of the at least one participating object to perform the medical procedure;
- generating the event for the selected participating object, wherein generating the event includes utilizing the computer to propagate aspects of the event throughout the hierarchy within the data structure, the propagation of aspects of the event including updating interdependencies and functional relationships, as represented by associations between elements stored within the data structure, responsive to the generated event;
- and
- delivering data representative of the generated event to a user, the data representative of the generated event representing how each participating object represented within the hierarchy is affected by the generated event.
A computer system to implement a method of managing and sharing, via a computer network, medical data, the computer system comprising:
- a processor;
- a system memory device communicatively coupled to the processor;
- a network interface device communicatively coupled to the processor;
- and
- a storage device accessible to the processor;
- wherein the storage device comprises a non-transitory computer readable medium comprising software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
- define an event representative of a medical procedure as a top tier object within a data structure stored in the system memory device;
- define at least one participating object, representative of a resource to be utilized during the medical procedure, in the data structure and associated to the event as a second tier object, the second tier object related, using a hierarchy within the data structure, to the top tier object;
- define and maintain, within the data structure, an operational relationship between the at least one participating object and a second participating object, the defining and maintaining performed by the processor;
- define an event capability for the at least one participating object, the event capability representative of an action to be performed by the at least one participating object for the medical procedure;
- define an event role for the at least one participating object, the event role representative of a function to be provided by the at least one participating object for the medical procedure;
- define a financial profile for the at least one participating object, the financial profile associated with the at least one participating object for the medical procedure;
- receive, from a user interface device associated with a computer on the computer network, an indication of selection of the at least one participating object to perform the medical procedure;
- generate the event for the selected participating object, wherein generating the event includes utilizing the processor to propagate aspects of the event throughout the hierarchy within the data structure, the propagation of aspects of the event including updating interdependencies and functional relationships, as represented by associations between elements stored within the data structure, responsive to the generated event;
- and
- deliver data representative of the generated event to a user, the data representative of the generated event representing how each participating object represented within the hierarchy is affected by the generated event.
