Abstract
A processor tracks a frequency of access requests of a first index corresponding to a first data page of a plurality of data pages stored in a database. The processor determines the first index corresponding to the first data page having a frequency of access requests that exceeds a configurable target, and the processor retains, with preference, the first data page that corresponds to the first index, within the cache memory.
Claims10
A method for retention of frequently accessed content in a cache memory supporting database operations, the method comprising:
- a processor generating a first data structure and a second data structure, both corresponding to database operations;
- the processor, calculating a frequency of access requests of a first data page of a first index of a database, based on a count of access requests of the first data page of the first index of the database within a time period with a duration that is configurable, wherein the configured duration of the time period remains fixed and a start time and an end time of the time period changes as time advances;
- the processor, recording a date and time of each access request of the first data page in the first data structure, wherein the first index corresponds to the first data page of a plurality of data pages residing in cache memory;
- responsive to determining the frequency of access requests of the first data page of the first index exceeds a target of access request frequency, the processor, adding the first index and a value of the frequency of access requests associated with the first index to the second data structure;
- the processor, adjusting the value of the frequency of access requests by removing or adding access requests to the value of the frequency of access requests, based on changes to the number of access requests within the time period of fixed duration as time advances;
- and
- the processor, creating an attribute of priority for retention in cache memory applied to the first data page wherein the retention of the first data page in the cache memory is prioritized over a second data page of the plurality of data pages with a frequency of access request value less than the value of the frequency of access re quests of the first data page.
