Abstract
Methods and combinations of mattress support surfaces comprising one or more flexible polyurethane foam layers containing highly thermally-conductive solids, such as diamond or silicon carbide, and said layer combination is capable of transferring heat from a warm surface, such as a person sleeping on a bed, to a cooler region at a faster rate throughout the mattress than the thermal dissipation rate obtained from flexible polyurethane foam without highly thermally-conductive solids.
Claims24
A mattress comprising:
- a core support portion comprising springs;
- at least one layer made of a flexible cross-linked cellular foam;
- and
- highly thermally conductive solid particles uniformly dispersed in the flexible cross-linked cellular foam, where the highly thermally conductive solid particles are selected from the group consisting of silicon carbide, synthetic diamond crystal powder, natural diamond crystal powder, type IIa diamond powder, synthetic diamond, carbonado, and combinations thereof, where the highly thermally-conductive solid particles are bound to a foam matrix,
- wherein the combination of the flexible cross-linked cellular foam and the highly thermally conductive solid particles allows heat to transfer at a faster rate from a warm region of the flexible cellular foam to a cooler region of the flexible cellular foam.

A mattress comprising:
- at least one layer comprising a cross-linked polyurethane foam;
- and
- highly thermally-conductive solid particles held on surfaces of foam struts in the polyurethane foam, where the highly thermally-conductive solid particles are selected from a group consisting of silcon carbide, synthetic diamond crystal powder, natural diamond crystal powder, type Ila diamond powder, synthetic diamond, carbonado, and combinations thereof, where the highly thermally-conductive solid particles are bound to a foam matrix,
- wherein the combination of the cross-linked polyurethane foam and the highly thermally conductive solid particles allows heat to transfer at a faster rate from one region of the cross-linked polyurethane foam to another region of the cross-linked polyurethane foam.

A mattress pad comprising:
- at least one layer made of a flexible cross-linked cellular foam;
- and
- highly thermally conductive solid particles held on surfaces of foam struts in the flexible cross-linked cellular foam, where the highly thermally conductive solid particles are selected from the group consisting of silicon carbide, synthetic diamond crystal powder, natural diamond crystal powder, type IIa diamond powder, synthetic diamond, carbonado, and combinations thereof, where the highly thermally-conductive solid particles are bound to a foam matrix,
- wherein the combination of the flexible cross-linked cellular foam and the highly thermally conductive solid particles allows heat to transfer at a faster rate from a warm region of the flexible cellular foam to a cooler region of the flexible cellular foam.
