Abstract
Provided herein is a composition for treating aluminum containing surfaces, wherein the composition includes a reaction product of at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and at least one fatty acid, wherein the molar ratio of the amino group/s of the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and of the at least one fatty acid is 1.2:1 to 1:2, and wherein the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof is linked to the at least one fatty acid by at least one carboxylic acid/amine salt bond and/or at least one amide bond.
Claims6
A method for producing a composition for treating aluminum containing surfaces, the composition comprising a reaction product of at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and at least one fatty acid, wherein the molar ratio of the amino groups of the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and of the at least one fatty acid is 1.2:1 to 1:2, wherein the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof is linked to the at least one fatty acid by at least one carboxylic acid/amine salt bond and by at least one amide bond, wherein the fatty acid has a hydrocarbyl group containing at least 20 carbon carbons and one C═C double bond, and wherein at least about 5 mol-% to about 15 mol-% of the linkages (detected by FT-IR spectroscopy) between the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and the at least one fatty acid are amide bonds;
- wherein the method comprises
- i) mixing the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and at least one fatty acid in a molar ratio of 1.2:1 to 1:2 in an essentially water-free medium;
- ii) subjecting the mixture, under stirring for at least 15 minutes, to a temperature of at least room temperature, so that at least 5 mol-% of the linkages between the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and the at least one fatty acid are amide bonds;
- and
- iii) combining the reaction product with at least one component selected from the group consisting of a solvent, a synthetic oil, a mineral oil, naphthenic oil, water, deionized water, 2-amino-2-methylpropanol, triethanol amine, boric acid, dodecanedioic acid, 3-amino-4-octanol, a polyethylene oxide of a carboxylic acid, a dicarboxy fatty acid, polymerized ricinoleic acid, a polymeric ester, eurucic acid, an ethoxylated fatty alcohol, 3-iodo-2-propymyl butyl carbamate, a defoamer mixture, and oleyl alcohol to provide a composition for treating aluminum containing surfaces.
A method for treating aluminum containing surfaces, the method comprising contacting an aluminum containing surface with a composition comprising a reaction product of at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and at least one fatty acid, wherein the molar ratio of the amino groups of the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and of the at least one fatty acid is 1.2:1 to 1:2, wherein the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof is linked to the at least one fatty acid by at least one carboxylic acid/amine salt bond and by at least one amide bond, wherein the fatty acid has a hydrocarbyl group containing at least 20 carbon carbons and one C═C double bond, and wherein at least about 5 mol-% to about 15 mol-% of the linkages (detected by FT-IR spectroscopy) between the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and the at least one fatty acid are amide bonds.
A method for treating metal, the method comprising contacting the metal with a composition comprising a reaction product of at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and at least one fatty acid, wherein the molar ratio of the amino groups of the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and of the at least one fatty acid is 1.2:1 to 1:2, wherein the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof is linked to the at least one fatty acid by at least one carboxylic acid/amine salt bond and by at least one amide bond, wherein the fatty acid has a hydrocarbyl group containing at least 20 carbon carbons and one C═C double bond, and wherein at least about 5 mol-% to about 15 mol-% of the linkages (detected by FT-IR spectroscopy) between the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and the at least one fatty acid are amide bonds, as a non-staining metal treating fluid on the metal.
A method for inhibiting corrosion, the method comprising contacting an aluminum containing surface with a corrosion inhibitor composition comprising a reaction product of at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and at least one fatty acid, wherein the molar ratio of the amino groups of the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and of the at least one fatty acid is 1.2:1 to 1:2, wherein the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof is linked to the at least one fatty acid by at least one carboxylic acid/amine salt bond and by at least one amide bond, wherein the fatty acid has a hydrocarbyl group containing at least 20 carbon carbons and one C═C double bond, and wherein at least about 5 mol-% to about 15 mol-% of the linkages (detected by FT-IR spectroscopy) between the at least one amine-functionalized organosilane and/or oligomer and/or polymer thereof and the at least one fatty acid are amide bonds.
