A honeycomb structure includes a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body having a porous partition wall defining a plurality of cells serving as fluid through channels extending from a first end face to a second end face, and having a circumferential wall disposed so as to encompass the circumference of the partition wall, wherein a thickness of the partition wall is 50 to 132 μm, a porosity of the partition wall is 40 to 55%, an open frontal area of pores on the surface of the partition wall per unit surface area of the partition wall is 10 to 15%, and a percentage (S0˜10/Sall×100%) of the ratio of an opening area S0˜10 of the pores having an opening diameter of 10 μm or less to a total opening area Sall of the pores opened to the surface of the partition wall is 90% or more.

The present application is an application based on JP 2021-056726 filed on Mar. 30, 2021 with Japan Patent Office, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
The present invention relates to a honeycomb structure. More particularly, it relates to a honeycomb structure which can be particularly suitably utilized as a catalyst carrier for loading a catalyst for exhaust gas purification.
In recent years, society as a whole has become increasingly aware of environmental problems. Therefore, exhaust gas emissions are regulated for gasoline-powered vehicles and diesel-powered vehicles in various countries, and various techniques to remove harmful components such as CO, HC, and NOx have been developed. In removing harmful components in such exhaust gas, it is common to use a catalyst to cause a chemical reaction to the harmful component to be changed into another component which is relatively harmless. For example, as a catalyst for removing harmful components in exhaust gas, an oxidation catalyst, a three-way catalyst, or a selective catalytic reduction catalyst for exhaust gas purification can be used. Then, a honeycomb structure is used as a catalyst carrier for loading a catalyst for such an exhaust gas purification.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view schematically showing one embodiment of the honeycomb structure of the present invention as viewed from an inflow end face side.
FIG. 2 is a plan view as viewed from the inflow end face of the honeycomb structure shown in FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view schematically showing the section taken along the line A-A′ of FIG. 2.
The following will describe embodiments of the present invention; however, the present invention is not limited to the following embodiments. Therefore, it should be understood that those created by adding changes, improvements or the like to the following embodiments, as appropriate, on the basis of the common knowledge of one skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the present invention are also covered by the scope of the present invention.
(1) Honeycomb Structure:
As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, a first embodiment of the honeycomb structure of the present invention is a honeycomb structure 100 including a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body 4. The honeycomb structure body 4 has a porous partition wall 1 defining a plurality of cells 2 serving as a fluid through channel extending from a first end face 11 to a second end face 12, and a circumferential wall 3 disposed so as to encompass the circumference of the partition wall 1.
