The present invention provides 18F-labeled amino acids or derivatives thereof having formula (I) and methods of making same, which can be suitable for PET imaging:

A compound having a formula (I):
- or a salt thereof or a stereoisomer thereof, wherein:
- n1 is 2, 3, 4 or 5;
- n2 and n3 are 0;
- R1 is alkyl;
- R2 is alkyl;
- R3 is H;
- R4 is H or COR10, wherein R10 is an amino acid residue or peptide;
- R5 is H or COR10, wherein R10 is an amino acid residue or peptide;
- R6 is —OH;
- and
- R7 is H.
