Abstract
In an embodiment, the methods and systems disclosed herein utilize a cloud-based service to accept measurements of commercial objects for storage in a database. In an embodiment, commercial objects are automatically grouped based on measured physical characteristics. In an embodiment, a build plan is generated to utilize the maximum amount of space possible in a shipping container based on the grouped commercial objects.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- receiving, at a computer system, package data specifying physical attribute values for a first plurality of objects which will be transported commercially;
- sending, by the computer system, the package data to a package database, the package database storing the package data;
- grouping, by the computer system, based on stored package data in the package database, the first plurality of objects into two or more package groups, each package group of the two or more package groups including a set of packages of the first plurality of objects;
- wherein grouping the objects is based on values of one or more target physical attributes for each object of the first plurality of objects, wherein each of the two or more package groups comprises objects having values, for the one or more target physical attributes, that are associated with said each package group;
- associating, by the computer system, a human-recognizable symbol with each package group of the two or more package groups, wherein the human-recognizable symbol for each package group is visually distinguishable from the human-recognizable symbols for every other package group in the two or more package groups;
- using first information defining volume specifications for package storage and second information identifying a second plurality of objects to be placed in the package storage, the second plurality of objects including one or more objects in each of the two or more package groups:
- generating, by the computer system, a package build plan that specifies a physical arrangement of at least the second plurality of objects, the physical arrangement being configured to occupy a target percentage of the package storage volume;
- wherein the package build plan identifies objects in each of the two or more package groups using at least the human-recognizable symbol for said each package group;
- and
- causing display of the package build plan on a graphical user interface.
One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause:
- receiving, at a computer system, package data specifying physical attribute values for a first plurality of objects which will be transported commercially;
- sending, by the computer system, the package data to a package database, the package database storing the package data;
- grouping, by the computer system, based on stored package data in the package database, the first plurality of objects into two or more package groups, each package group of the two or more package groups including a set of packages of the first plurality of objects;
- wherein grouping the objects is based on values of one or more target physical attributes for each object of the first plurality of objects, wherein each of the two or more package groups comprises objects having values, for the one or more target physical attributes, that are associated with said each package group;
- associating, by the computer system, a human-recognizable symbol with each package group of the two or more package groups, wherein the human-recognizable symbol for each package group is visually distinguishable from the human-recognizable symbols for every other package group in the two or more package groups;
- using first information defining volume specifications for package storage and second information identifying a second plurality of objects to be placed in the package storage, the second plurality of objects including one or more objects in each of the two or more package groups:
- generating, by the computer system, a package build plan that specifies a physical arrangement of at least the second plurality of objects, the physical arrangement being configured to occupy a target percentage of the package storage volume;
- wherein the package build plan identifies objects in each of the two or more package groups using at least the human-recognizable symbol for said each package group;
- and
- causing display of the package build plan on a graphical user interface.
