The present application provides a radiation damage protecting agent comprising hydrogen gas as an active ingredient at a concentration of 18.5% by volume or less, for treating or alleviating, in a hyperbaric capsule under a pressure higher than standard atmospheric pressure, radiation damage in a human patient who has been exposed to radiation or who has received or receives radiotherapy, and a hyperbaric capsule for administering a hydrogen gas-containing therapeutic agent such as the radiation damage protecting agent to a patient including a human.
A method for treating or alleviating-radiation damage in a human patient who has been exposed to radiation or who has received or receives radiotherapy, comprising inhaling a radiation damage protecting agent comprising hydrogen gas as an active ingredient by the human patient,

The present patent document is a § 371 filing based on PCT Application Serial No. PCT/JP2017/046633, filed Dec. 26, 2017, which claims priority to Japanese Patent Application Nos. JP 2016-252753, filed Dec. 27, 2016 and JP 2017-231072, filed Nov. 30, 2017, which are hereby incorporated by
The present invention relates to a radiation damage protecting agent useful for treating or alleviating radiation damage caused by radiation exposure or radiotherapy.
Workers in nuclear power plants, clinical laboratory technicians dealing with radioactive test agents, doctors and radiological technicians engaged in X-ray examination and cancer radiation treatment and others are always exposed to a small amount of radiation during work. Also, nuclear power plant accidents may cause the workers as well as residents in the surrounding areas to be exposed to radiation. Depending on the amount of radiation exposure, the hematopoietic system, immune system, digestive system, respiratory system, central nervous system and the like may be damaged, and if the exposure dose exceeds the lethal dose, it may lead to death.
FIG. 1 is a graph showing the mean±standard error (SE) of the number of radiation treatments in the control group (Control, n=7) and the hydrogen group (H2, n=16), respectively.
FIG. 2 is a graph showing the mean±standard error (SE) of the total radiation dose (×103 cm3·Gy) determined by multiplying the volume of the irradiation site by the total dose of the radiation received during the period of radiation treatment in the control group (Control, n=7) and the hydrogen group (H2, n=16), respectively.
FIG. 3 is a graph showing the mean±standard error (SE) of the relative value of the white blood cell count (WBC) immediately after radiation treatment to the WBC before radiation treatment (the WBC before radiation treatment is taken as 1) in the control group (Control, n=7) and the hydrogen group (H2, n=16), respectively. All ratios are represented by the relative value of the WBC after radiation treatment to the WBC before radiation treatment.
The present invention will be described in more detail.
1. Radiation Damage Protecting Agent
According to the first aspect of the present invention, a radiation damage protecting agent comprising hydrogen gas as an active ingredient, for treating or alleviating, in a hyperbaric capsule under a pressure higher than the standard atmospheric pressure, radiation damage in a human patient who has been exposed to radiation or who has received or receives radiotherapy is provided.
