Abstract
A mounting rail assembly comprises a rail configured to be coupled to a helmet. The rail may include a rear surface and a front surface with a mounting groove extending along a length of the front surface. The mounting groove may be open outwardly from a front surface of the rail and be configured to couple to a first accessory device at two or more positions along the length of the rail. A recess may be proximate an edge of the mounting rail assembly. The recess may be open generally perpendicular to the mounting groove and configured to receive a second accessory device. At least a portion of the recess may be positioned between the mounting groove and the rear surface of the rail.
Claims15
A rail for mounting accessories to a helmet, the rail comprising:
- a front surface;
- a mounting groove formed into the front surface and extending along a length of the front surface, the mounting groove open outwardly from the front surface and configured to adjustably couple to a first accessory device at two or more positions along the length of the front surface;
- a rear surface;
- an edge extending between the front surface and the rear surface;
- and
- a recess extending between the rear surface and the mounting groove and opening through the edge, the recess configured to receive a second accessory device.
A rail for mounting accessories to a helmet, the rail comprising:
- a front surface;
- a mounting track formed into the front surface and extending along a length of the front surface, the mounting track configured to adjustably and slidably couple to a first accessory device along the length of the front surface, the mounting track including a plurality of indents configured to retain the first accessory device at two or more positions in the mounting track along the length of the front surface;
- a rear surface configured to couple to the helmet;
- a bottom edge extending between the front surface and the rear surface;
- and
- a recess extending between the rear surface and the mounting track and opening through the bottom edge, the recess configured to couple a second accessory device to the rail, the second accessory device being a mandible shield.
A helmet system comprising:
- a ballistic helmet having a front chin strap aperture and a rear chin strap aperture, the ballistic helmet having an edge extending between the front chin strap aperture and the rear chin strap aperture and configured to extend around a user's ear;
- and
- an accessory mounting rail coupled to the ballistic helmet by a first bolt extending through the accessory mounting rail and the front chin strap aperture and a second bolt extending through the accessory mounting rail and the rear chin strap aperture, the accessory mounting rail having a bottom edge generally aligned with the edge of the ballistic helmet, the accessory mounting rail having a mounting track extending along a length of the accessory mounting rail, the accessory mounting rail configured to adjustably and slidably couple to a first accessory device along the length of the accessory mounting rail, the mounting track including a plurality of indents configured to retain the first accessory device at two or more positions along the length of the accessory mounting rail, the accessory mounting rail having a rear surface coupled to the ballistic helmet and a recess extending between the rear surface and the mounting track and opening through the bottom edge, the recess configured to couple a second accessory device to the accessory mounting rail, the second accessory device being a mandible shield.
