Sulfonamide carboxamide compounds

A compound of formula (I):

• or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, solvate or prodrug thereof, wherein:
• Q is O;
• R1 is selected from:
• (a) a branched C3-C7 alkyl group, wherein the alkyl group is unsubstituted;
• or
• (b) a straight-chained C2-C7 alkenyl group, wherein the alkenyl group is unsubstituted;
• or
• (c) —(C(R4)2)nR3;
• wherein n is 1 or 2;
• each R4 is independently selected from hydrogen, halo, methyl or halomethyl;
• and R3 is a phenyl group, wherein the phenyl group may optionally be halo substituted and/or may optionally be substituted with one or two substituents independently selected from C1-C3 alkyl, C1-C3 haloalkyl, —CN, —ORδ, —CORδ, or —COORδ, wherein each —Rδ is independently selected from hydrogen or a C1-C3 alkyl, C1-C3 haloalkyl, cyclopropyl or halocyclopropyl group, and wherein the group —R1 including any optional substituents contains from 7 to 12 carbon atoms;
• or
• (d) a C1-C6 alkyl or C2-C6 alkenyl group, wherein the alkyl or alkenyl group is halo substituted and/or is substituted with one, two or three substituents independently selected from —CN, —N3, —NO2, —ORδ, —N(Rδ)2, —CORδ or —COORδ, wherein each —Rδ is independently selected from hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 haloalkyl, C3-C7 cycloalkyl or C3-C7 halocycloalkyl group;
• and
• R2 is phenyl or a 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group;
• wherein
• (i) the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is substituted at the α position with a substituent selected from —R9, —OR9 or —COR9, wherein R9 is selected from a C1-C6 alkyl, C2-C6 alkenyl, C2-C6 alkynyl or C2-C6 cyclic group and wherein R9 is optionally substituted with one or more halo groups;
• and
• the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is further substituted at the α′ position with a substituent selected from —R14, —OR14 or —COR14, wherein R14 is selected from a C1-C6 alkyl, C2-C6 alkenyl, C2-C6 alkynyl or C2-C6 cyclic group and wherein R14 is optionally substituted with one or more halo groups;
• and
• optionally the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is further substituted;
• or
• (ii) the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is substituted with a cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, non-aromatic heterocyclic, aryl or heteroaryl ring which is fused to the parent phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group across the α,β positions and which is optionally substituted with one or more halo groups;
• and
• the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is further substituted at the α′ position with a substituent selected from —R9, —OR9 or —COR9, wherein R9 is selected from a C1-C6 alkyl, C2-C6 alkenyl, C2-C6 alkynyl or C2-C6 cyclic group and wherein R9 is optionally substituted with one or more halo groups;
• and
• optionally the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is further substituted;
• or
• (iii) the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is substituted with a first cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, non-aromatic heterocyclic, aryl or heteroaryl ring which is fused to the parent phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group across the α,β positions and which is optionally substituted with one or more halo groups;
• and
• the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is substituted with a second cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, non-aromatic heterocyclic, aryl or heteroaryl ring which is fused to the parent phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group across the α′,β′ positions and which is optionally substituted with one or more halo groups;
• and
• optionally the phenyl group is further substituted;
• or
• (iv) the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is substituted at the α-position with a monovalent heterocyclic group or a monovalent aromatic group selected from phenyl, pyridinyl, pyrimidinyl, pyrazolyl, imidazolyl, triazolyl or tetrahydropyranyl, wherein the monovalent heterocyclic or aromatic group may optionally be substituted with one or two substituents independently selected from halo, C1-C3 alkyl, C1-C3 haloalkyl, —R12—OR13, —R12—N(R13)2, —R12—CN or —R12—C≡CR13, and wherein a ring atom of the monovalent heterocyclic or aromatic group is directly attached to the α-ring atom of the parent phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group;
• wherein R12 is independently selected from a bond or a C1-C3 alkylene group;
• and R13 is independently selected from hydrogen or a C1-C3 alkyl or C1-C3 haloalkyl group;
• and
• the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is further substituted at the α′ position with a substituent selected from —R9, —OR9 or —COR9, wherein R9 is selected from a C1-C6 alkyl, C2-C6 alkenyl, C2-C6 alkynyl or C2-C6 cyclic group and wherein R9 is optionally substituted with one or more halo groups;
• and
• optionally the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is further substituted;
• or
• (v) the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is substituted at the α-position with a monovalent heterocyclic group or a monovalent aromatic group selected from phenyl, pyridinyl, pyrimidinyl, pyrazolyl, imidazolyl, triazolyl or tetrahydropyranyl, wherein the monovalent heterocyclic or aromatic group may optionally be substituted with one or two substituents independently selected from halo, C1-C3 alkyl, C1-C3 haloalkyl, —R12—OR13, —R12—N(R13)2, —R12—CN or —R12—C≡CR13, and wherein a ring atom of the monovalent heterocyclic or aromatic group is directly attached to the α-ring atom of the parent phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group;
• wherein R12 is independently selected from a bond or a C1-C3 alkylene group;
• and R13 is independently selected from hydrogen or a C1-C3 alkyl or C1-C3 haloalkyl group;
• and
• the phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group is further substituted with a cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, non-aromatic heterocyclic, aryl or heteroaryl ring which is fused to the parent phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group across the α′,β′ positions and which is optionally substituted with one or more halo groups;
