Abstract
A DAP unweighting system comprising an unweighting assembly and an exercise machine wherein the unweighting system is adaptable to the exercise machine and uses existing framing elements of the exercise machine to achieve an effective and user friendly DAP unweighting system assembly.
Claims22
An unweighting system for unweighting of a user using air pressure while using an exercise machine, the unweighting system comprising:
- an exercise machine frame element disposed about a running surface portion of an exercise machine;
- a substantially airtight chamber which is formed around the running surface portion of the exercise machine, the substantially airtight chamber extending upward from a base disposed proximate the exercise machine frame element to a top opening defined through the substantially airtight chamber, the substantially airtight chamber having a first chamber portion and a second chamber portion;
- a user seal disposed about the top opening and attached to the substantially airtight chamber, the user seal configured to encapsulate a portion of the user extending through the top opening and form a seal between the portion of the user and the substantially airtight chamber;
- and
- a removable sealing assembly securing the first chamber portion to the second chamber portion and forming a substantially airtight seal between the secured first and second chamber portions, the removable sealing assembly comprising:
- a first joint member attached to the first chamber portion;
- a second joint member attached to the second chamber portion;
- and
- at least one retaining member securing the first joint member with the second joint member in a substantially airtight arrangement;
- wherein a substantially airtight seal is formed between the first chamber portion and the second chamber portion during use of the exercise machine.
7 more elements
A differential air pressure exercise device comprising:
- a treadmill exercise device including a substantially horizontal running surface;
- a support frame covering top portions of the treadmill exercise device proximate the horizontal running surface and extending about a perimeter of the treadmill exercise device, the user support frame comprising:
- a plurality of side covers attached to a plurality of end covers in an arrangement extending about the perimeter of the treadmill exercise device;
- and
- a plurality of additional frame members attached to the plurality of side covers and the plurality of end covers, a respective top surface of each of the additional frame members aligned with each other and oriented substantially parallel with the horizontal running surface;
- a sealing surface formed on the top surface of the plurality of additional frame members, the sealing surface configured to form a sealed attachment with a bottom opening of a DAP chamber, the DAP chamber having an upper chamber portion and a lower chamber portion defining the bottom opening, the sealing surface substantially parallel with the running surface and defining a perimeter smaller than an outer perimeter of the treadmill exercise device;
- and
- a removable sealing assembly securing the upper chamber portion to the lower chamber portion and forming a substantially airtight seal between the secured upper and lower chamber portions, the removable sealing assembly having a location and arranged for allowing removal of the chamber without removing the exercise machine frame element, the removable sealing assembly comprising:
- a first joint member attached to the upper chamber portion;
- a second joint member attached to the lower chamber portion;
- and
- at least one retaining member securing the first joint member with the second joint member in a substantially airtight arrangement;
- wherein a substantially airtight seal is formed between the upper chamber portion and the lower chamber portion during use of the exercise machine.
