Abstract
In implementations of pattern filling in garment pieces, a pattern filling system represents a first garment piece as a first curve and a second garment piece as a second curve. The system determines a relationship between the first garment piece and the second garment piece by comparing the first curve and the second curve. The pattern filling system generates a visually pleasing fill pattern for the first garment piece and the second garment piece based on the determined relationship.

In a digital medium environment for automatic pattern filling in garment pieces, a method implemented by a computing device, the method comprising:
- representing, by the computing device, a first garment piece as a first R-Theta curve that encodes a geometry of the first garment piece based on a centroid of the first garment piece and distances determined from the centroid of the first garment piece to a boundary of the first garment piece;
- representing, by the computing device, a second garment piece as a second R-Theta curve that encodes a geometry of the second garment piece based on a centroid of the second garment piece and distances determined from the centroid of the second garment piece to a boundary of the second garment piece;
- normalizing, by the computing device, the first and second R-Theta curves, the first R-Theta curve is different from the second R-Theta curve before normalizing and the first R-Theta curve is identical to the second R-Theta curve after normalizing;
- identifying, by the computing device, a relationship between the first and second garment pieces as including a garment family relationship by comparing the first R-Theta curve and the second R-Theta curve after normalizing;
- generating, by the computing device, a fill pattern for the first and second garment pieces based on the relationship;
- and
- applying the fill pattern to the first and second garment pieces.
In a digital medium environment for automatic pattern filling in garment pieces, a system comprising:
- an identification module implemented by one or more processing devices to:
- receive garment data describing garment pieces;
- and
- process the garment data to identify a first garment piece and a second garment piece;
- a representation module implemented by the one or more processing devices to:
- represent the first garment piece as a R-Theta first curve that encodes a geometry of the first garment piece based on a centroid of the first garment piece and distances determined from the centroid of the first garment piece to a boundary of the first garment piece;
- represent the second garment piece as a second R-Theta curve that encodes a geometry of the second garment piece based on a centroid of the second garment piece and distances determined from the centroid of the second garment piece to a boundary of the second garment piece;
- and
- normalize the first and second R-Theta curves, the first R-Theta curve is different from the second R-Theta curve before normalizing and the first R-Theta curve is identical to the second R-Theta curve after normalizing;
- a relationship module implemented by the one or more processing devices to identify a relationship between the first garment piece and the second garment piece as including a garment family relationship by comparing the first curve and the second curve after normalizing;
- and
- a generation module implemented by the one or more processing devices to:
- generate a fill pattern for the first garment piece and the second garment piece based on the relationship;
- and
- apply the fill pattern to the first garment piece and the second garment piece.
In a digital medium environment for automatic pattern filling in garment pieces, non-transitory computer-readable storage media storing instructions that when executed on a processor of a computing device cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:
- representing a first garment piece as a first R-Theta curve that encodes a geometry of the first garment piece based on a centroid of the first garment piece and distances determined from the centroid of the first garment piece to a boundary of the first garment piece;
- representing a second garment piece as a second R-Theta curve that encodes a geometry of the second garment piece based on a centroid of the second garment piece and distances determined from the centroid of the second garment piece to a boundary of the second garment piece;
- normalizing the first and second R-Theta curves, the first R-Theta curve is different from the second R-Theta curve before normalizing and the first R-Theta curve is identical to the second R-Theta curve after normalizing;
- determining a relationship between the first garment piece and the second garment piece as including a garment family relationship by comparing the first R-Theta curve and the second R-Theta curve after normalizing;
- generating a fill pattern for the first garment piece and the second garment piece based on the relationship;
- and
- applying the fill pattern to the first garment piece and the second garment piece.
