Abstract
A biomimetic tissue scaffold for repairing an elongated tissue in need of repair can comprise a plurality of coiled flexible polymeric ribbons having a surface on which is formed an array of nanofibers, the ribbons forming a tubular body defining a first open end in which a first end of the elongated tissue is receivable, a second open end in which a second end of the elongated tissue is receivable, and a lumen extending between the first and second open ends.
Claims9
A tissue scaffold, comprising:
- a plurality of flexible polymeric ribbons, each ribbon having a surface on which is formed an array of nanofibers;
- wherein:
- the ribbons are arranged to form an elongated body having a first end, a second end, and a generally circular cross section,
- each ribbon includes a first end and a second end opposite the first end,
- the first end of each ribbon is coterminous with the first end of each other ribbon,
- the second end of each ribbon is coterminous with the second end of each other ribbon, and
- each ribbon of the plurality contacts at least one other ribbon of the plurality.
A tissue scaffold, comprising:
- a proximal layer configured to provide a first tissue effect, the proximal layer comprising a first plurality of flexible polymeric ribbons, each ribbon of the first plurality having a surface on which is formed a first array of nanofibers;
- and
- a distal layer configured to provide a second tissue effect secured to the proximal layer, the distal layer comprising a second plurality of flexible polymeric ribbons, each ribbon of the second plurality having a surface on which is formed a second array of nanofibers;
- wherein the first tissue effect is regeneration or augmentation of a first tissue;
- and
- wherein the second tissue effect is regeneration or augmentation of a second tissue which is different from the first tissue.
A tissue scaffold, comprising:
- a proximal layer configured to provide a first tissue effect, the proximal layer comprising a first plurality of flexible polymeric ribbons, each ribbon of the first plurality having a surface on which is formed a first array of nanofibers;
- a distal layer configured to provide a second tissue effect secured to the proximal layer, the distal layer comprising a second plurality of flexible polymeric ribbons, each ribbon of the second plurality having a surface on which is formed a second array of nanofibers;
- and
- a layer of nanofiber mesh secured to the distal layer, the mesh comprising a strip of flexible polymeric film having a surface on which is formed a third array of nanofibers, the film including a plurality of laterally spaced rows of longitudinally offset openings defined through the film.
A tissue scaffold, comprising:
- a proximal layer configured to provide a first tissue effect, the proximal layer comprising a first plurality of flexible polymeric ribbons, each ribbon of the first plurality having a surface on which is formed a first array of nanofibers;
- a distal layer configured to provide a second tissue effect secured to the proximal layer, the distal layer comprising a second plurality of flexible polymeric ribbons, each ribbon of the second plurality having a surface on which is formed a second array of nanofibers;
- and
- a layer of nanofiber mesh secured to the distal layer, the mesh comprising a strip of flexible polymeric film having a surface on which is formed a third array of nanofibers, the film including a plurality of laterally spaced rows of slits defined through the film, each row of slits including a cut portion and an uncut portion, the uncut portions of adjacent rows of slits being longitudinally offset from each other such that the uncut portions are centered in the cut portions of adjacent rows of slits.
