Device for the mixing and storing of polymethylmethacrylate bone cement

A method for the mixing of a bone cement comprising the chronological steps of:

• A) providing a device comprising
• a cartridge (1, 51) having an internal space (24, 74) for mixing the bone cement, which is closed on one side by a mobile dispensing plunger (2, 52);
• a monomer container (46,96) containing a monomer liquid;
• a connector (20, 70) for attachment of the monomer container (46, 96), such that the monomer container (46, 96) is openable appropriately in the device such that the monomer liquid flows from the opened monomer container (46, 96) into a hollow cylinder (12, 62) of the device;
• and
• a connecting conduit (38, 88) through which the monomer liquid can be guided into the internal space (24, 74) of the cartridge (1, 51),
• wherein the hollow cylinder (12, 62) is connected to the connecting conduit (38, 88) and the hollow cylinder (12, 62) is arranged between the connector for the monomer container (46, 96) and the internal space (24, 74) of the cartridge (1, 51), wherein a pumping plunger (14, 64) that can be shifted axially in the hollow cylinder (12, 62) is arranged in the hollow cylinder (12, 62), wherein the connecting conduit (38, 88) connects the hollow cylinder (12, 62) to the internal space (24, 74) of the cartridge (1, 51), such that the pumping plunger (14, 64) can be used to push monomer liquid from the hollow cylinder (12, 62) through the connecting conduit (38, 88) into the internal space (24, 74) of the cartridge (1, 51) by actuating the pumping plunger (14, 64), wherein the connector (20,70) for attachment of the monomer container (46, 96) terminates into the hollow cylinder (12, 62) on a jacket surface of the hollow cylinder (12, 62);
• B) opening the monomer container (46, 96);
• C) flowing the monomer liquid from the monomer container (46, 96) into the hollow cylinder (12, 62), wherein the hollow cylinder (12, 62) is bounded on one side by the pumping plunger (14, 64);
• D) pushing the pumping plunger (14, 64) into the hollow cylinder (12, 62) and thus pressing the monomer liquid from the hollow cylinder (12, 62) and through the connecting conduit (38, 88) into the internal space (24, 74) of the cartridge (1, 51), wherein a cement powder is situated in the internal space (24, 74) of the cartridge (1, 51);
• and
• E) mixing the monomer liquid and the cement powder in the internal space (24, 74) of the cartridge (1, 51).
