Actuatable flow media

An actuatable flow media system for controlling a flow rate of a liquid through the actuatable flow media, the actuatable flow media system comprising:

• a base defining a plurality of base cavities;
• at least one aperture formed in each base cavity of the plurality of base cavities and defining a first liquid flow path, the first liquid flow path extending through the base;
• a flexible membrane arranged in spaced relation with the base and defining a second liquid flow path extending through the actuatable flow media;
• an elastically deformable element arranged in each base cavity of the plurality of base cavities and extending between the base and the flexible membrane for actuation between at least a first configuration, in which each elastically deformable element is substantially undeformed and the first and second liquid flow paths are open, and a second configuration in which the elastically deformable element is substantially deformed and at least one of the first and second liquid flow paths is closed;
• and
• a control element operatively coupled to the flexible membrane and each elastically deformable element, the control element configured to vary a configuration of each elastically deformable element between at least the first configuration and the second configuration, thereby to control a flow rate of the liquid flowing through the second liquid flow path.

An actuatable flow media for controlling a flow rate of a liquid through the actuatable flow media, the actuatable flow media comprising:

• a base defining a plurality of base cavities;
• at least one aperture formed in each base cavity of the plurality of base cavities and defining a first liquid flow path, the first liquid flow path extending through the base;
• a flexible membrane arranged in spaced relation with the base and defining a second liquid flow path extending through the actuatable flow media;
• and
• an elastically deformable element arranged in each base cavity of the plurality of base cavities and extending between the base and the flexible membrane for actuation between at least a first configuration, in which each elastically deformable element is substantially undeformed and the first and second liquid flow paths are open, and a second configuration in which the elastically deformable element is substantially deformed and at least one of the first and second liquid flow paths is closed;
• and
• wherein the base includes at least one support element extending between the base and the flexible membrane;
• and
• wherein the base includes at least one groove formed therein to provide flexibility thereto.
