Reconfigurable communication interface for a device

A system comprising:

• a first subsystem;
• a second subsystem;
• and
• a circuit that facilitates communicating information between the first subsystem and the second subsystem, the circuit comprising:
• a first group of ports configured to be electrically coupled to the first subsystem;
• a second group of ports configured to be electrically coupled to the second subsystem;
• and
• routing circuitry electrically coupled to the first group of ports and the second group of ports, wherein the routing circuitry is configured to:
• electrically couple a first port of the first group of ports to a first pair of ports of the second group of ports to facilitate communicating first information applied to the first port of the first group of ports to the first pair of ports of the second group of ports, and
• in response to a particular signal being applied to a particular port of the second group of ports:
• electrically couple the first pair of ports of the second group of ports to a first pair of ports of the first group of ports to facilitate communicating second information between the first pair of ports of the second group of ports and the first pair of ports of the first group of ports, and
• electrically couple a second pair of ports of the second group of ports to a second pair of ports of the first group of ports.

A method for communicating information between a first system and a second system, the method comprising:

• configuring routing circuitry of an interface circuit that comprises a first group of ports electrically coupled to the first system and a second group of ports electrically coupled to the second system to commutatively couple a first port of the first group of ports to a first pair of ports of the second group of ports to facilitate communicating first information applied to the first port of the first group of ports to the first pair of ports of the second group of ports;
• receiving, at a particular port of the second group of ports, a particular signal;
• and
• responsive to receiving the particular signal, re-configuring the routing circuitry to:
• commutatively couple the first pair of ports of the second group of ports to a first pair of ports of the first group of ports to facilitate communicating second information between the first pair of ports of the second group of ports and the first pair of ports of the first group of ports, and
• commutatively couple a second pair of ports of the second group of ports to a second pair of ports of the first group of ports.
