System and method for executing a notification service

A method of executing a notification service, the method executed by a server device having a communications module and comprising:

• accessing, via the communications module, a first repository of event data stored by an event monitoring layer connected to at least one entity in an enterprise, the first repository of event data being asynchronously updated by the event monitoring layer on an ongoing basis according to a plurality of process workflows implemented by the at least one entity communicating with the event monitoring layer;
• storing event data from the first repository in a second repository to track the event data with the notification service, separate from the event monitoring layer, from the event monitoring layer to determine when to trigger notifications, wherein the event data is associated with one or more events, each event being associated with at least one of the plurality of process workflows, and each event being at least in part associated with a sequence in the respective at least one of the plurality of workflows;
• detecting, by accessing the second repository via the communications module, an actionable item requiring a notification based on a current progress of a first one of the plurality of process workflows being tracked, the actionable item being determined using access to at least one third repository comprising at least one of rules, hierarchies and thresholds associated with the plurality of process workflows;
• determining, by the notification service, at least one parameter for the notification, wherein the notification is associated with a subsequent action of the respective sequence associated with the respective at least one of the plurality of workflows, determined by accessing the second repository, and based on the at least one third repository;
• and
• sending the notification via the communications module to at least one client device user according to the at least one parameter.

A non-transitory computer readable medium for executing a notification service, the computer readable medium comprising computer executable instructions for:

• accessing, via a communications module, a first repository of event data stored by an event monitoring layer connected to at least one entity in an enterprise, the first repository of event data being asynchronously updated by the event monitoring layer on an ongoing basis according to a plurality of process workflows implemented by the at least one entity communicating with the event monitoring layer;
• storing event data from the first repository in a second repository to track the event data with the notification service, separate from the event monitoring layer, to determine when to trigger notifications, wherein the event data is associated with one or more events, each event being associated with at least one of the plurality of process workflows, and each event being at least in part associated with a sequence in the respective at least one of the plurality of workflows;
• detecting, by accessing the second repository via the communications module, an actionable item requiring a notification based on a current progress of a first one of the plurality of process workflows being tracked, the actionable item being determined using access to at least one third repository comprising at least one of rules, hierarchies and thresholds associated with the plurality of process workflows;
• determining, by the notification service, at least one parameter for the notification, wherein the notification is associated with a subsequent action of the respective sequence associated with the respective at least one of the plurality of workflows, determined by accessing the second repository, and based on the at least one third repository;
• and
• sending the notification via the communications module to at least one client device user according to the at least one parameter.
