Abstract
A technique for dynamically adjusting a configuration of a computing system includes determining, during execution of a workload on the computing system, one or more characteristics of the workload. A system configuration from a plurality of system configurations available for the computing system is selected based on the one or more characteristics of the workload. A current configuration of the computing system is adjusted according to the selected system configuration, during the execution of the workload.
Claims20
A method performed by a computing system, the method comprising:
- determining, during execution of a first workload on the computing system, one or more characteristics of the first workload;
- selecting a first system configuration from a first plurality of system configurations available for the computing system, based on the one or more characteristics of the first workload, comprising:
- computing a set of metrics for the one or more characteristics of the first workload;
- determining, based on the set of metrics, that the first system configuration satisfies one or more conditions, wherein determining that the first system configuration satisfies the one or more conditions comprises:
- generating a search input based on the set of metrics, the search input comprising a plurality of bits, where a value of each bit is based on a value of one of the set of metrics;
- identifying the search input in an entry of a table that maps different search inputs to one or more of the first plurality of system configurations;
- and
- determining that the first system configuration corresponds to the search input in the identified entry of the table;
- and
- selecting the first system configuration;
- and
- adjusting a current configuration of the computing system according to the selected first system configuration, during the execution of the first workload.

- at least one processor;
- and
- a memory containing one or more applications, which when executed by the processor, performs an operation comprising:
- determining, during execution of a first workload on the computing system, one or more characteristics of the first workload;
- selecting a first system configuration from a first plurality of system configurations available for the computing system, based on the one or more characteristics of the first workload, comprising:
- computing a set of metrics for the one or more characteristics of the first workload;
- determining, based on the set of metrics, that the first system configuration satisfies one or more conditions, wherein determining that the first system configuration satisfies the one or more conditions comprises:
- generating a search input based on the set of metrics, the search input comprising a plurality of bits, where a value of each bit is based on a value of one of the set of metrics;
- identifying the search input in an entry of a table that maps different search inputs to one or more of the first plurality of system configurations;
- and
- determining that the first system configuration corresponds to the search input in the identified entry of the table;
- and
- selecting the first system configuration;
- and
- adjusting a current configuration of the computing system according to the selected first system configuration, during the execution of the first workload.

A computer-readable storage medium having computer-readable program code embodied therewith, the computer-readable program code executable by one or more computer processors to perform an operation comprising:
- determining, during execution of a first workload on a computing system, one or more characteristics of the first workload;
