Abstract
A device, memory, method and system directed to fast data storage on a block storage device that reduces operational wear on the device. New data is written to an empty write block with a number of write blocks being reused. A location of the new data is tracked. Metadata associated with the new data is written. A lookup table may be updated based in part on the metadata. The new data may be read based the lookup table configured to map a logical address to a physical address.
Claims6
A block storage device comprising:
- pluralities of data arranged in time received order;
- respective pluralities of metadata associated with respective pluralities of said data stored contiguous with respective pluralities of said data within at least one write block;
- at least one additional write block, wherein when said pluralities of said data and associated metadata fill said at least one write block, said at least one additional write block accepts said pluralities of data and associated metadata therein;
- and
- looking up, from a write block table of write blocks on said device, a given write block from a number of active write blocks, wherein said write block table comprises an active block count field and a write block age field,
- whereby said given write block listed within said write block table is selected as a candidate write block for said at least one additional write block, and
- whereby, in operation, the operational wear on said block storage device is reduced, and the operational lifetime of said block storage device is at least doubled.
