A cell lysate or cell-free protein synthesis system comprising recombinant translational proteins and uses thereof are provided.

A cell-free cell lysate from a cell mixture that heterologously expresses all of the following polypeptides:
- translational initiation factor 1 (IF1);
- translational initiation factor 2 (IF2);
- translational initiation factor 3 (IF3);
- translational elongation factor G (EF-G);
- translational elongation factor Tu (EF-Tu);
- translational elongation factor Ts (EF-Ts);
- translational elongation factor 4 (EF4);
- translational release factor 1 (RF1),
- translational release factor 2 (RF2),
- translational release factor 3 (RF3);
- and
- ribosome recycling factor (RRF).
