System and method for accurate weight measurement

A method, comprising:

• mounting at least one load receiver on a shopping cart or basket for performing a weighing operation of an item that is placed into the shopping cart or basket;
• providing a plurality of sensors on the shopping cart or basket and the at least one load receiver for detecting a plurality of parameters relating to the weighing operation of the item;
• obtaining, by a processor of the shopping cart of basket, information of the item from a computing device via a communication network;
• determining, by the processor, an actual weight of the item based at least upon the information of the item obtained from the computing device and a portion of the plurality of parameters;
• inhibiting, by the processor, the weighing operation of the item in response to detecting that at least the portion of the plurality of parameters exceeds a selected threshold;
• storing, by the computing device, the information of the item;
• and
• transmitting, by the computing device, the information to the processor of the shopping cart or basket in response to detecting the item has been identified by the shopping cart or basket and placed on the at least one load receiver.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer codes executable by a system comprising a shopping cart or basket and a computing device, the shopping cart or basket including at least one load receiver for performing a weighing operation of an item that is placed into the shopping cart or basket, the non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising code for causing a processor of the shopping cart or basket to:

• control a plurality of sensors provided on the shopping cart or basket and the at least one load receiver for detecting a plurality of parameters relating to the weighing operation of the item;
• obtain information of the item from the computing device via a communication network;
• determine an actual weight of the item based at least upon the information of the item obtained from the computing device and a portion of the plurality of parameters;
• and
• inhibit the weighing operation of the item in response to detecting that at least the portion of the plurality of parameters exceeds a selected threshold,
• the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises code for causing a processor of the computing device to store the information of the item, and transmit the information to the processor of the shopping cart or basket in response to detecting the item has been identified by the shopping cart or basket and placed on the at least one load receiver.
