Abstract
Tissue repair systems which use knotless all-suture anchors and have the ability to lock multiple repair sutures within the anchor construct. The anchor construct includes a tension suture wrapped or looped upon itself to create an open eyelet, through which multiple repair sutures originating in soft tissue are passed. The location of the eyelet may be anywhere inside the all-suture anchor or adjacent to the exterior of the anchor body. Tensioning of the tension suture causes the eyelet to restrict movement of the repair sutures and secures them within or against the anchor body.
Claims17
A tissue repair assembly comprising:
- a tubular, soft anchor body having a proximal end, a distal end, and a longitudinal axis extending therebetween;
- a suture coupled to the soft anchor body such that first and second ends of the suture exit the soft anchor body adjacent to the proximal end of the anchor body;
- and
- at least one loop formed by the suture, the at least one loop defining at least one opening at least one flexible member passed through the at least one opening, and wherein the at least one loop is configured to change from a first loop length to a second loop length smaller than the first loop length, the first loop length configured to permit the at least one flexible member to slide therethrough and the second loop length configured to inhibited sliding of the least one flexible member therethrough;
- wherein tensioning of the first and second ends of the suture causes the anchor body to change from a first configuration, in which the anchor body is elongate, to a second configuration, in which the anchor body is axially compressed and radially extended;
- wherein tensioning of the first and second ends of the suture also changes the at least one loop from the first loop length to the second loop length and thereby secures the at least one flexible member to the anchor body;
- wherein the at least one loop comprises a first loop and a second loop, and wherein both first and second loop reduce in size upon tensioning of the first and second ends.
A tissue repair assembly comprising:
- a tubular, soft anchor body having a proximal end, a distal end, and a longitudinal axis extending therebetween;
- a suture coupled to the anchor body such that first and second ends of the suture exit the anchor body adjacent to the proximal end of the anchor body;
- wherein the suture further comprises at least one adjustable opening, at least one flexible member passed through the at least one adjustable opening after at least one adjustable opening;
- wherein tensioning of the first and second ends of the suture causes the anchor body to change from a first configuration, in which the anchor body is elongate, to a second configuration, in which the anchor body is axially compressed and radially extended;
- wherein tensioning of the first and second ends of the suture also alters a size of the at least one adjustable opening of the suture from a first size configured to allow the at least one flexible member to slide therethrough to a reduced size that inhibits the at least one flexible member from sliding therethrough;
- wherein the at least one adjustable opening comprises a first and second adjustable openings for passage of the at least one flexible member therethrough and wherein tensioning of the first and second ends of the suture reduces both the first and second adjustable opening of the suture.
A method of tissue repair comprising:
- coupling at least one flexible member to soft tissue;
- passing the at least one flexible member through at least one opening in a length of suture, the length of suture extending through a soft anchor body so as to define first and second ends of the length of suture extending from a proximal end of the soft anchor body;
- inserting the soft anchor body into a bone hole;
- and
- applying tension to a first end of the flexible member so as to draw the soft tissue closer to the bone;
- deploying the soft anchor body is elongate, to a second configuration, in which the soft anchor body is elongate, to a second configuration, in which the anchor body is axially compressed, radially extended and engaged with bone hole;
- applying tension to the length of suture so as to shrink the at least one opening and secure the at least one soft tissue to the anchor body;
- wherein the at least one opening comprises a first opening and a second opening, and wherein both the first and second openings reduce in size upon tensioning of the first and second ends of the suture.
