Abstract
A liquid-crystalline medium having a nematic phase containing one or more compounds of formula D the use thereof in an electro-optical display, particularly in an active-matrix display based on the IPS or FFS effect, displays of this type which contain a liquid-crystalline medium of this type and the use of the compounds of formula D for improvement of the contrast and/or response times of a liquid-crystalline medium which contain one or more additional mesogenic compounds, as well as certain compounds of formula D.

A liquid-crystalline medium having a nematic phase, comprising one or more compounds of formula D
- in which
- RD denotes H, an alkyl radical having 1 to 15 C atoms, in which one or more CH2 groups are optionally each replaced, independently of one another, by —C≡C—, —CF2O—, —OCF2—, —CH═CH—, —O—, —(CO)—O—, —O—(C═O)—, cyclo-propylene, 1,3-cyclobutylene, 1,3-cyclopentylene, or 1,3-cyclo-pentenylene, in such a way that 0 atoms are not linked directly to one another, and in which one or more H atoms are optionally replaced by halogen,
- YD1, YD2 YD3 and YD4 idependently or differently, denote H, F or Cl, wherein at least one of YD1 and YD2 is not H,
