Abstract
The present invention relates generally to implants used in medical procedures such as bone fixation or fusion. More specifically, this application relates to fenestrated implants used in bone fixation or fusion.
Claims19
An implant for sacroiliac joint fixation, the implant comprising:
- an elongate body having a longitudinal axis, a distal end, a proximal end, three or four sides, and a rectilinear cross sectional outer profile transverse to the longitudinal axis, the rectilinear cross sectional outer profile extending from a proximal half of the elongate body into a distal half of the elongate body,
- each of the three or four sides having therein a plurality of fenestrations, and
- wherein the elongate body has a bending strength or a shear strength of at least 0.5 relative to a reference elongate body with identical dimensions and material composition but without any fenestrations.
An implant for sacroiliac joint fixation, the implant comprising:
- an elongate body having a longitudinal axis, a distal end, a proximal end, three or four sides, and a rectilinear cross sectional outer profile transverse to the longitudinal axis, the rectilinear cross sectional outer profile extending from a proximal half of the elongate body into a distal half of the elongate body,
- each of the three or four sides having therein a plurality of fenestrations,
- wherein the elongate body includes an axially-extending central lumen disposed about the longitudinal axis, and wherein the plurality of fenestrations in each of the three or four sides does not extend to the central lumen, and
- wherein the elongate body has a bending strength or a shear strength of at least 0.5 relative to a reference elongate body with identical dimensions and material composition but without any fenestrations.
