Abstract
A tissue resector includes an outer cannula with a cutting element disposed therein. The outer cannula includes an opening that is configured to be associated with a cutting element of the cutting element in such a way that when tissue is drawn into the opening of the cannula, a cutting element of the cutting element can be rotated past the opening to engage and cut into and through the tissue. The outer cannula and the cutting element may also be configured to enable aspiration of the tissue. A tissue resector according to this disclosure may be used with a hand-held, hand-operated rooter.
Claims19
A tissue resector, comprising:
- a cannula having a wall defining a lumen extending along a length of the cannula, the cannula including an opening proximate a distal end of the cannula, the opening extending through the wall into the lumen;
- a cutting blade disposed in the lumen such that the cutting blade rotates across the opening;
- and
- an elongated drive wire secured to and extending proximally from the cutting blade through the lumen;
- wherein the elongated drive wire is configured to rotate eccentrically within the lumen to rotate a cutting edge of the cutting blade across the opening to cut tissue extending into the opening;
- wherein the cutting blade extends distal of the opening.

- and
- an elongated drive wire secured to and extending proximally from the cutting blade through the lumen;
- wherein the elongated drive wire is configured to rotate eccentrically within the lumen to rotate a cutting edge of the cutting blade across the opening to cut tissue extending into the opening;
- wherein the cutting blade includes a cylindrical wall defining a lumen within the cutting blade;
- wherein the cutting blade includes an elongate opening through the cylindrical wall of the cutting blade into the lumen of the cutting blade;
- wherein a distal end of the drive wire extends into the lumen of the cutting blade and is secured to an inner surface of the cutting blade.
