Abstract
An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system for shear wave measurement transmits push pulses into tissue for the generation of shear waves. Characteristics of the shear waves such as their velocity of passage through the tissue are measured to assess properties such as tissue stiffness. The measurements are compensated for effects of background motion by sampling echo signals from the tissue at different times and comparing the samples to detect the presence of relative motion between the ultrasound probe and the region of interest where shear waves are detected. Sensed background motion is used to adjust measured shear wave characteristics.
Claims20
An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system comprising:
- an ultrasonic array probe comprising a two dimensional array of transducer elements;
- and
- a beamformer controller configured to provide control signals to the ultrasonic array probe, wherein the control signals cause the two dimensional array of transducer elements to transmit a push beam sheet along a predetermined vector, wherein the push beam sheet is formed by the two dimensional array of transducer elements transmitting a plurality of ultrasonic bursts at a corresponding plurality of focal points and moving the plurality of focal points during transmission of the plurality of ultrasonic bursts to form a corresponding plurality of line sources.
A method comprising:
- transmitting, with a two dimensional array of transducer elements, a plurality of ultrasonic bursts at a corresponding plurality of focal points;
- and
- moving the plurality of focal points during transmission of the plurality of ultrasonic bursts to form a corresponding plurality of line sources, wherein the plurality of line sources cause a push beam sheet to be transmitted through a tissue to generate a shear wave in the tissue.
