Abstract
An apparatus, system, and methods for measuring environmental parameters are disclosed. The apparatus, system and methods can be used for a variety of applications, including HVAC air balancing and building commissioning. The system includes a variety of wireless sensing modules and wearable modules for control. display, and storage. Parameters measured include air and water temperature, pressure. velocity, and flow. Also included are sensors for light intensity, CO concentrations, and CO2 concentrations.

A test and balance data gathering system comprising:
- two or more wireless sensor modules removably coupled to two or more locations of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, the two or more locations remote from a user;
- and
- a control module wirelessly coupled to the two or more wireless sensor modules through a wireless radio electronic portion comprised in the two or more wireless sensor modules;
- wherein each of the two or more wireless sensor modules comprise an air pressure sensor and a sensing probe coupled to the air pressure sensor, each sensing probe configured to be inserted through a duct wall of the HVAC system and used in obtaining a pressure measurement;
- wherein the two or more wireless sensor modules are removably coupled to the two or more locations of the HVAC system through two or more attachment mechanisms, each attachment mechanism comprising one of a clip, magnet, hook and loop fasteners, or adhesive dot;
- wherein the one of the clip, magnet, hook and loop fasteners, or adhesive dot is configured to directly couple to the HVAC system when the two or more wireless sensor modules are removably coupled to the two or more locations of the HVAC system;
- wherein the two or more wireless sensor modules are configured to simultaneously obtain air pressure measurements at the two or more locations using the two or more wireless sensor modules;
- wherein the two or more wireless sensor modules are configured to transmit the air pressure measurements over a telecommunication channel to the control module;
- and
- wherein the control module is configured to simultaneously display the air pressure measurements from the two or more wireless sensor modules on a screen of the control module.
A method of performing a test and balance operation for pressure, the method comprising:
- placing a wireless pressure sensor module comprising a first port and a second port adjacent to an air duct;
- linking the wireless pressure sensor module to a control module using a wireless telecommunication channel;
- inserting a first pressure collecting device through a hole in a wall of the air duct;
- collecting a first pressure at a first orifice of the first pressure collecting device and a second pressure at a second orifice of the first pressure collecting device;
- collecting a third pressure outside of the air duct through a second pressure collecting device;
- conducting the first pressure to the first port and the second pressure to the second port;
- using one or more differential pressure sensors in the wireless pressure sensor module, measuring a first differential pressure between the first pressure and the second pressure;
- using one or more differential pressure sensors in the wireless pressure sensor module, measuring a second differential pressure between the first pressure and the third pressure;
- using one or more differential pressure sensors in the wireless pressure sensor module, measuring a third differential pressure between the second pressure and the third pressure;
- wirelessly transmitting the first differential pressure, the second differential pressure, and the third differential pressure to the control module over a telecommunication channel;
- calculating a duct static pressure using the first differential pressure, the second differential pressure, and the third differential pressure;
- and
- simultaneously displaying one of the first differential pressure or velocity measurement and the duct static pressure on a screen of the control module.
A test and balance data gathering system comprising:
- two or more wireless sensor modules configured to removably couple to two or more locations of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, the two or more locations remote from a user;
- and
- a control module configured to wirelessly couple to the two or more wireless sensor modules through a wireless radio electronic portion comprised in the two or more wireless sensor modules;
- wherein each of the two or more wireless sensor modules comprise a first sensor module port, a second sensor module port, a sensing probe configured to couple to the first sensor module port and configured to be inserted through a duct wall of the HVAC system to obtain a pressure measurement, and an air pressure sensor;
- wherein the two or more wireless sensor modules are configured to removably couple to the two or more locations of the HVAC system through two or more attachment mechanisms, each attachment mechanism comprising one of a clip, magnet, hook and loop fasteners, or adhesive dot;
- wherein the two or more wireless sensor modules are configured to obtain differential air pressure measurements at the two or more locations using the two or more wireless sensor modules;
- wherein the two or more wireless sensor modules are configured to transmit the differential air pressure measurements over a telecommunication channel to the control module;
- wherein the control module is configured to simultaneously display the differential air pressure measurements from the two or more wireless sensor modules on a screen of the control module;
- wherein the differential air pressure measurements are configured to enable the user to observe an effect of an HVAC test and balance adjustment made by the user to a portion of an HVAC system made prior to the two or more measurements;
- and
- wherein the two or more wireless sensor modules are configured to removably couple to the HVAC system during a period of time during which testing and balancing is being performed by the user.
