Abstract
A method and system for tattoo removal from a subject by exposing tattoo ink particles trapped within the dermis to a cold plasma is described herein. The tattoo removal method and system can be used to remove the tattoo from the skin of the subject being treated. In addition, the method and system described allows for the extraction of the tattoo ink particles, which may have toxic properties, from the subject's body.
Claims18
A system for removing a tattoo from a subject's skin, the system comprising:
- a cold plasma generation component;
- a treatment component integrated with the cold plasma generation component and having a treatment end comprising one or more needle or probe-like structures configured to penetrate the subject's skin to be disposed at a target site for treating a tattooed dermis of the subject;
- and
- at least one control unit including, a computerized flow meter, configured to control at least one of power and flow rate of a cold plasma generated by the plasma generating component such that a maximum change in temperature of the tattooed dermis that is exposed to the cold plasma remains in a range of about 1° C. to about 5° C.;
- wherein the cold plasma generation component is configured to provide the cold plasma to the treatment end of the treatment component and the treatment component is adapted to deliver the cold plasma via at least one of said one or more needle or probe-like structures to the tattooed dermis of the subject to degrade or dislodge tattoo ink particles without causing thermal damage to the plasma-exposed dermis.
