Abstract
Systems and methods have demonstrated the capability of rapidly cooling the contents of pods containing the ingredients for food and drinks.
Claims22
A method of forming a cold food or drink, the method comprising:
- inserting a pod into an evaporator of a machine comprising a refrigeration system to cool the pod and a motor, the pod having a body and a base defining an interior cavity containing a mixing paddle operable by the motor and ingredients for the cold food or drink;
- separating a first portion of the base from adjacent portions of the base using the machine;
- and
- retaining the first portion of the base separated from the adjacent portions of the base in the machine while operating the refrigeration system to cool the pod and operating the motor to rotate mixing paddle.

A machine for forming a cold food or drink, the machine comprising:
- an evaporator of a refrigeration system operable to cool a pod having a base when the pod is positioned in a recess defined by the evaporator with the base at the bottom of the recess;
- a motor operable to rotate a mixing paddle of the pod;
- and
- a dispenser rotatable to separate a first portion of the base from adjacent portions of the base using the machine such that the first portion of the base separated from the adjacent portions of the base is retained in the machine while operating the refrigeration system to cool the pod and operating the motor to rotate mixing paddle.
