Abstract
This invention relates to doors having internal blocking components that reduce or eliminate telegraphing of the outer surface of the door facings. In particular, the invention relates to steel-edge steel doors that have internal solid wood blocks that have one or more integral cantilever beams formed into the blocks to interact with the adjoined oppositely arranged door facings in order to eliminate visually apparent door telegraphing. The blocks are modified to contain notches formed therein to form the cantilever beams.
Claims20
A door, comprising:
- a frame having a first stile and a second stile extending in parallel and connected at respective top ends by a top rail and at respective bottom ends by a bottom rail;
- door facings secured to opposite sides of the frame;
- a core disposed between the door facings;
- and
- a blocking component disposed within the frame and between and in contact with the door facings, the blocking component having a top surface facing the top rail, a bottom surface opposing the top surface and facing the bottom rail, a first surface facing the first stile, a second surface opposing the first surface and facing the second rail,
- wherein the blocking component comprises first parallel notches, each of the first parallel notches extending from the top surface away from the top rail toward the bottom rail, terminating remotely of the bottom surface, or extending from the first surface away from the first stile toward the second stile, terminating remotely from the second surface,
- wherein the blocking component comprises second parallel notches extending from the bottom surface away from the bottom rail toward the top rail, terminating remotely from the top surface, or extending from the second surface away from the second stile toward the first stile, terminating remotely from the first surface, and
- wherein the first and second parallel notches terminate remote from each other.
A method for making a door, comprising the steps of:
- a) securing two opposed door facings to a frame, wherein the frame includes a first stile and a second stile extending in parallel and connected at respective top ends by a top rail and at respective bottom ends by a bottom rail;
- b) providing a blocking component within the frame and between and in contact with the door facings, the blocking component having a top surface facing the top rail, a bottom surface opposing the top surface and facing the bottom rail, a first surface facing the first stile, a second surface opposing the first end and facing the second rail, wherein
- i) the blocking component comprises first parallel notches, each of the first parallel notches extending from the top surface away from the top rail toward the bottom rail, terminating remotely of the bottom surface, or extending from the first surface away from the first stile toward the second stile, terminating remotely from the second surface,
- ii) the blocking component comprises second parallel notches extending from the bottom surface away from the bottom rail toward the top rail, terminating remotely from the top surface, or extending from the second surface away from the second stile toward the first stile, terminating remotely from the first surface, and
- iii) the first and second parallel notches terminate remote from each other;
- and
- c) thereafter forming a core between the door facings.
