Abstract
A method, according to one approach, includes forming an underlayer of a magnetic recording medium. The underlayer includes encapsulated nanoparticles each comprising a magnetic nanoparticle encapsulated by an aromatic polymer, and a polymeric binder binding the encapsulated nanoparticles. A method, according to another approach, includes mixing encapsulated nanoparticles with a polymeric binder and a solvent to form a mixture, the encapsulated nanoparticles each comprising a magnetic nanoparticle encapsulated by an aromatic polymer. The mixture is applied onto a structure. The applied mixture is at least partially dried and cured.
Claims25
A method, comprising:
- forming an underlayer of a magnetic recording medium, the underlayer comprising:
- encapsulated nanoparticles each comprising a magnetic nanoparticle encapsulated by an aromatic polymer, and
- a polymeric binder binding the encapsulated nanoparticles;
- curing the underlayer by irradiating the underlayer for causing crosslinking of the polymeric binder, wherein the encapsulated nanoparticles are not well aligned with each other in the cured underlayer;
- and
- forming a magnetic recording layer on the cured underlayer.
A method, comprising:
- forming an underlayer of a magnetic recording medium, the underlayer comprising:
- encapsulated nanoparticles each comprising a magnetic nanoparticle encapsulated by an aromatic polymer, and
- a polymeric binder binding the encapsulated nanoparticles,
- wherein the aromatic polymer includes methylene bis diphenyl carbamate.
A method, comprising:
- forming an underlayer of a magnetic recording medium, the underlayer comprising:
- encapsulated nanoparticles each comprising a magnetic nanoparticle encapsulated by an aromatic polymer, and
- a polymeric binder binding the encapsulated nanoparticles, wherein the encapsulated nanoparticles are not well aligned with each other in the underlayer,
- wherein forming the underlayer includes spray coating a mixture of the magnetic nanoparticles, aromatic polymer, and polymeric binder onto a structure.
A method, comprising:
- mixing encapsulated nanoparticles with a polymeric binder and a solvent to form a mixture, the encapsulated nanoparticles each comprising a magnetic nanoparticle encapsulated by an aromatic polymer;
- applying the mixture onto a structure;
- at least partially drying the applied mixture for causing the polymeric binder to collapse onto the encapsulated nanoparticles as the solvent is removed during the drying;
- curing the at least partially dried applied mixture by irradiating the at least partially dried applied mixture for causing crosslinking of the polymeric binder, wherein the encapsulated nanoparticles are not well aligned with each other in the cured applied mixture;
- and
- forming a magnetic recording layer on the cured applied mixture.
