Abstract
A method for creating a dynamic element in content performed by a dynamic element management system is disclosed. The method includes receiving a content request for the dynamic element from a client device, the content request comprising a uniform resource locator (URL) of an external data source from which to retrieve content for the dynamic element; identifying the data source based on the URL; forwarding the content request to the identified data source; receiving metadata corresponding to the content hosted by the data source; and forwarding the metadata to the client device for display in a dynamic element placeholder on the client device.
Claims20
A method for providing linked content in an electronic document, the method comprising:
- causing display of a graphical user interface on a client device, the graphical user interface depicting at least a portion of the electronic document which includes document content and a region having linked content that is linked to external content provided by an external data source;
- in response to a determination that the external content of the external data source having restrictive permissions, causing display of a placeholder graphical object at the region within the electronic document;
- in response to a request to view the linked content, obtaining one or more user credentials;
- and
- in response to a successful authentication of the one or more user credentials, causing the placeholder graphical object to be replaced with a dynamic element including at least a portion of the external content obtained from the external data source.
A method for displaying a dynamic element in electronic content, the method comprising:
- causing display of a graphical user interface on a client device, the graphical user interface displaying the electronic content including a graphical object that references an external data source;
- in response to a determination that the external data source has restrictive permissions, causing display of a placeholder graphical object for the graphical object within the electronic content;
- in response to a request to view the graphical object, obtaining user credentials;
- and
- in response to authentication of the user credentials, causing the placeholder graphical object to be replaced with the dynamic element including content obtained from the external data source.
A method of displaying a dynamic element within electronic content, the method comprising:
- causing display of a linked graphical object within the electronic content, the linked graphical object associated with content from an external data source;
- in response to a determination that the external data source is a restricted data source, causing display of a placeholder graphical object within the electronic content;
- in response to a user selection of the placeholder graphical object, obtaining user credentials;
- and
- in response to a successful authentication based on the user credentials, causing the placeholder graphical object to be replaced with a dynamic element, the dynamic element including at least a portion of the content from the external data source.
