Abstract
Devices, methods, and systems for translating building automation events into mobile notifications are described herein. One device includes a memory, and a processor configured to execute executable instructions stored in the memory to receive a notification of an event from a building automation system, translate the event into a mobile notification of the event, and transmit the mobile notification of the event to a mobile device.
Claims18
A computing device for translating a particular building automation event into a mobile notification, comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processor configured to execute executable instructions stored in the memory to:
- receive a notification of a particular building automation event from a building automation system in a notification format that is native to the building automation system;
- translate the notification of the particular event from the notification format of the building automation system into a mobile notification of the particular event, wherein the mobile notification of the particular event is in a self-describing data format that is platform and discipline independent, and wherein translating the notification of the particular event by the computing device includes:
- determining an event type of the particular event from a plurality of different event types based on information in the notification of the particular event received from the building automation system in the notification format of the building automation system;
- retrieving a message template for the determined event type from a database that stores different message templates for different event types, the retrieved message template including template information that is specific to the determined event type of the plurality of different event types;
- adding information about the particular event to the template information of the retrieved message template to produce the mobile notification of the particular event, wherein the information about the particular event that is added to the template information of the retrieved message template is included in and taken from the notification of the event received in the notification format of the building automation system and includes data or details about the particular event;
- and
- push the mobile notification of the particular event out to one or more mobile devices in the self-describing data format that is platform and discipline independent;
- in response to the one or more of the mobile devices receiving the mobile notification of the particular event, receive a user adjustment to an operation of the building automation system from one or more of the mobile devices that received the mobile notification to address the particular event;
- and
- implement the user adjustment to the operation of the building automation system to address the particular event.

A method for translating a particular building automation event into a mobile notification, comprising
- receiving, by a computing device, a notification of a particular event from a building automation system in a notification format that is native to the building automation system;
- translating, by the computing device, the notification of the particular event from the notification format of the building automation system into a mobile notification of the event that is in a self-describing data format that is platform and discipline independent by:
- determining an event type of the particular event from a plurality of different event types based on information in the notification of the particular event received from the building automation system in the notification format of the building automation system;
- retrieving a message template for the determined event type from a database that stores different message templates for different event types, the retrieved message template including template information that is specific to the determined event type of the plurality of different event types;
- adding information about the particular event to the template information in the retrieved message template to produce the mobile notification of the particular event, wherein the information about the particular event that is added to the template information is derived from the notification of the particular event received from the building automation system;
- and
- push the mobile notification of the particular event out to one or more mobile devices in the self-describing data format that is platform and discipline independent.

A system for translating a building automation event into a mobile notification, comprising:
- a building automation system;
- a network-based platform remote to the building automation system;
- wherein the building automation system is configured to:
- detect an event having an event type occurring in the building automation system;
- transmit a notification of the event in a notification format that is native to the building automation system to the network-based platform;
- wherein the network-based platform is configured to:
- translate the notification of the event from the native notification format of the building automation system into a mobile notification of the event, wherein the mobile notification of the event is in a self-describing data format that is platform and discipline independent, wherein translating the notification of the event includes:
- determining an event type of the event from a plurality of different event types;
- retrieving a message template for the determined event type from a plurality of different message templates corresponding to respective event types, the retrieved message template including template information that is specific to the determined event type of the plurality of different event types;
- adding information about the event to the template information in the retrieved message template to produce the mobile notification of the event, wherein the information about the event that is added to the template information is derived from the notification of the event received from the building automation system;
- and
- push the mobile notification of the event out to one or more mobile devices in the self-describing data format.
