Abstract
Gaming systems and methods which enable a player to skip a bonus event, such as a play of a triggered bonus game, in exchange for a placement of a sporting event wager.

A gaming system comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions that, when executed by the processor responsive to an occurrence of a triggering event associated with a play of a game, cause the processor to:
- skip the play of the game, and
- independent of any play of any game:
- cause a sporting event wager to be placed on an outcome of a sporting event, wherein the outcome of the sporting event is determined independent of the processor and the outcome of the sporting event is based on any action of a participant of the sporting event, and
- cause a sporting event wager ticket associated with the placed sporting event wager to be available.

- determine a first award amount based on a theoretical award amount associated with the play of the game, and

- cause a sporting event wager to be placed on an outcome of a sporting event, wherein an amount of the sporting event wager is based on a-the theoretical award amount associated with the play of the game, the outcome of the sporting event is determined independent of the processor and the outcome of the sporting event is based on any action of a participant of the sporting event, and
- cause a sporting event wager ticket associated with the placed sporting event wager to be available.
