Abstract
A method of reducing power consumption in portable devices includes providing a sensor producing a sensing signal indicative of sensed entity and powering the sensor. Powering the sensor includes providing a first power value for a first time interval, providing a second power value for a second time interval, the second power value being different from the first power value, and discontinuing powering for a third time interval.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- powering a sensor that produces a sensing signal indicative of a sensed entity, wherein the powering comprises:
- providing a first power value for a first time interval;
- providing a second power value for a second time interval, the second power value being different from the first power value;
- discontinuing powering for a third time interval;
- collecting a first set of sensing values and a second set of sensing values from the sensing signal received from the sensor over the second time interval;
- and
- predicting a third set of values for the sensing signal over the third time interval as a function of the first set of sensing values and the second set of sensing values.

A device, comprising:
- an input/output node configured to receive a sensing signal indicative of sensed entity produced by a sensor;
- a power node configured to power the sensor;
- and
- a processor functionally coupled to the input/output node and the power node, the processor configured to
- provide a first power value for a first time interval;
- provide a second power value for a second time interval, the second power value being different from the first power value;
- discontinue powering for a third time interval;
- collect a first set of sensing values and a second set of sensing values from the sensing signal received from the sensor over the second time interval;
- and
- predict a third set of values for the sensing signal over the third time interval as a function of the first set of sensing values and the second set of sensing values.

A portable device comprising:
- a sensor package;
- a metal oxide gas sensor disposed within the sensor package;
- and
- an integrated circuit disposed within the sensor package and spaced from but electrically coupled to the metal oxide gas sensor, the integrated circuit comprising sensor circuitry configured to operate the sensor and a processor coupled to the sensor circuitry, the processor configured to
- provide a first power value for a first time interval;
- provide a second power value for a second time interval, the second power value being different from the first power value;
- discontinue powering for a third time interval;
- collect a first set of sensing values and a second set of sensing values from a sensing signal received from the sensor over the second time interval;
- and
- predict a third set of values for the sensing signal over the third time interval as a function of the first set of sensing values and the second set of sensing values.
